P992 Problem

When I turned my monitor (P992) on, there was no picture. The power light was flashing on and off and when the power light was off, my monitor made a clicking noise. This noise was the same it usually makes when it turns on. Except no picture this time. I tried everything in the help booklets, manuals, and from Dell's website. Can anyone help me, please?

mine Stil has not been resolved even after many mails/requests to replace.  I guess as a 'Certified Dell technician" my opinion of hardware failure does not apply at home.

Yes, dead insects inside the plastic wrap that the monitor came in, I'm not sure if they were inside the monitor as well, I didn't take the time to look.    I told the Dell representative that I did not want refurbished but that doesn't matter to Dell.  In my opinion, when you receive refurbished parts, you are just getting back someone elses problems.

I have written to Dell and have received no response regarding the insect problem.  I joined this forum in order to spread the word out there for everyone to be careful when they receive refurbished parts from Dell.

Hey, I guess that's true. After they replaced my monitor, they wanted the "dead" one back in the same box as the reburbished one came with. After having intstalled the monitor, it worked, but there is a vertical line on the left on the screen. That means that you always see it, especially when watching movies with a lot of dark shots on the pc.

So yes, it might have been replaced by someone elses problems.

At least it works ;)

Anyone know if there was the same problem with the 17" Dell Trinitrons as well??

This is sounding kind of familiar.  I purchased my first Dell a couple of weeks ago with a M992 monitor.  I have not had an image yet.  Please look at the separate posting for this on this forum for details.  I am spending days emailing "tech support" doing one troubleshooting step at a time.  I tried calling them the on 1/17 when I first powered up my system.  I spent over an hour on the phone only to be disconnected on the Dell end before I could ever speak with a person.  At this time, I have not been able to do anything with my system because I have never had an image on my monitor to work with.

Hello Dan,

About the same happened to me. What I did was just calling back to a common Dell number and explaining them what happened. Then they immediately put me through! After some time the employee put me on hold again for quite some time, but well. If you expect too much, you'll always get disappointed...

Good luck!

I just read your message re: 992 problem. I don't have that problem but my computer that I just got less than 1 month ago has not been right since it was installed.  Slow,     scratchy speakers, it freezes, white spots in the screen, the bottom half of the screen is at top, the top is at bottom.  After hours on phone waiting for tech, then trying to understand them they either think you are a dummy or another technican.  All they can tell me is that I need more memory. They sent more memory, did not help, once again hours on phone, walking me thru steps , the same ones over and over, twice after an hour or two they said they would call back the next night and finish.  Of course no one called.  So I started with the e- mails, after telling them I wanted to return the computer all they can do is send a link telling me how to fix the problem.  I am tired of all this run around.  I called customer service and told them I wanted to return computer they told me to call back next day.  So how can you find Michael Dell.  If I had found this forrum I never would have bought a Dell.

Dude, I wish I'd gotton a Gateway

I'm not sure which 17" Trinitron you're referring to, but I used to have one a long time ago. It still works just fine (gave that system to a friend of mine).

You make your csae and point very clear.  But what about the other 4 - 6% of those whom may not know about this forum or could not find it or just did not feel that writting to a forum would in any way help their situation. What about those whom felt that since their warranty had expired there was no guarantee their problem would be resolved. I'm sure your supervisers at Dell are very proud to have employees like yourself defending their product and I would ask, in all your wisdom, you keep one thing in mind: To remain the best, you'll have to be the best and being the best means giving it your all to keep your customer base. And that includes doing whats right! By the way, this is only the second time I've had to send my P992 to the shop to be repaired.

  Have a nice day,
