Problem with connecting 2 monitors
Hi all,
I got a problem with connnecting 2 monitors (21" Fujitsu-Siemens, 17" no name)!
My system = Dimesion 8300.
My graphic card = ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
My OS = Windows XP Pro
Here the problem:
My 21" monitor is connected to the vga port. The 17" monitor is connected to the dvi port using a DVI-I-TO-VGA
ADAPTER. The 21" monitor should be the primary with an resolution of 1600x1200. If I activate the second monitor in systempanel -> display everything works fine.... just as long as I don't reboot my computer. Because then suddenly the 17" monitor is the primary and the resolution on my 21" is now 800x600!
I've already tried to connect the 21" to the dvi port and the 17" to the vga port... but that doesn't have any effect!
Can somebody please tell me what the problem could be? Can the problem be caused by one of the monitors or by the graphic card or by the OS?
I'm looking forward to your replies!

Think it depends on whether you are cloning or extending the desktop. It can be a little difficult to setup. I would suggest, if you have not already, go to the Display Control Panel, Settings , select the 'Display' tab, then click on the Help button. Go to arrange multiple displays. It will tell you there how to assign displays, and retain settings under topic 'change the assignment.... This should then assign the resoluiton and settings you made when you reboot. I am not being glib, just making sure the basics are covered first. If you have done so already then I am uncertain why settings are not being retained. Perhaps others may assist you here. Reply back with how things go.
