Quality of screen

I recently bought a Dell DImension, but the TFT screen seems to be rather poor quality.

I had a Samsung before that that was clear, but this Dell screen seems to be a bit cheap. Text and photos don't apear as clear as on the Samsung.

Does anyone have experience with the quality of Dell screens, I'm not sure if I have a bad screen, or if they just use cheap ones. I've tried re-setting the screent to factory settings.

Thanks

tonyo0ntyontoyhntouiyojdl,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

If you have winxp tried the following.

ClearType is a font smoothing technology. ClearType is enabled through Display Properties.

1. Click Start-Control Panel
2. Click the Appearance and Themes icon
3. Click the Display icon
4. Click the Appearance tab
5. Click the Effects button
Everything gets a check EXCEPT for "Use large icons"
6. Below "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen font"
Change this to "ClearType"
7. Click OK
8. Click Apply-OK

Dell has two quality levels of LCD monitors. The "E" series is "economy" while the "Ultrasharp" series is high end. The Ultrasharp monitors have enahanced viewing angles and DVI (digital video) connectors for best display quality. In either case, though, the image should be sharp. Be sure that the display resolution is set to the optimum value for your monitor (15" - 1024x768, 17-19" - 1280x1024, 20" - 1600x1200) and refresh rate is 60 Hz. If you have an Ultrasharp monitor and a video card that supports DVI, use the DVI rather than analog connection.

I have a Dimension 8300 system supplied with an e172fp flat panel monitor, I can tell you from experience that this is one to be avoided, text on this is extremely poor and yes I have tried the cleartype option which made little or no difference. Along with tech support I have tried every available resolution and font size, numerous test programmes and just about everything else they could think of.

Tech support is to say the least 'scratchy' one even suggested that I connect my nice new analogue only monitor to the DV connector on the graphics card to see if that improved things, when I pointed out the obvious no reply.  I have a whole host of emails from them which I will gladly send if you think they may help.

I am now on my third monitor and the problem remains a constant which maybe leads to the conclusion that this is a poor quality monitor, there are numerous mails on this subject if you go back far enough so I find it hard to believe that Dell are unaware of the problem yet I beleive that they are still selling this particular model.....speaks for itself really.

You may well end up like me, I have given up the will to live with this, after taking days off work for deliveries and collections, hours on the phone to support and wearing out the keyboard emailing them it's easier to give in and know when you are beaten, learn the lesson the hard way and shop elsewhere next time which really is a pity as the 8300 unit itself is superb.

I hope you manage to get further than I did.

Its interesting to hear your experience.

I called the saleswoman who sold me the system, she called back once, she'd told me that the system came with a speaker when it didn't, but since then has refused to answer my calls. Though I have been polite. I have no speaker though I paid for one.

I spoke to a manager, he promised to call back, but hasnt. I've called him a few times, still hasn't called me back.

I'm very dissapointed with the screen, it seems poor quality, I asked the salesperson for a high quality screen, and this can't be compared to the Samsung I used to have.

I have tried to speak to someone in customer service, but they're in India and can't understand English properly.

I am talking to my lawyer at the moment. I can't speak to anyone at Dell who'll return my calls, I can't speak to anyone in Customer Service who can speak English, and I can't seem to get through to anyone who'll deal with this problem. I've dealt with Dell before and always found them professional and helpful, but at the moment I find that I have a system which I did not order.

You have my sympathies it has taken me weeks  experiencing the same attitudes and laclustre support to get nowhere, it seems like the policy is just to grind us down and not address the problem.  I really do wish you luck, pity Dell don't read these forums, if they did would anything be better?.  Who Knows.  Let us know how you get on.

Yes, that seems to be the plan. Ignore calls, don't reply, and the customer will go away.

I am very angry about the way I've been lied to, to make a sale, and I'm stuck with a poor quality screen which I didn't ask for. The Saleswoman mis-represented the product.

I'm not going to go away, and am seeking legal advice. Luckily I'm a journalist, so if I'm going to court I'm not going quietly. This is the kind of story the media love to report on, and I can't wait to get stuck in. I've worked hard for the money I spent and don't want to waste it so a saleswonan gets a slightly bigger bonus.

I hope you don't give up, and I hope you take legal action as well.

Let me know how you get on!
