Re: P991 Dell Ultrascan...multiple horizontal lines

I noticed alot of posts on horizontal lines and I have a
5+ year old Dell P991 Ultrascan monitor.  It has just
recently began displaying multiple lite red lines fairly
evenly spaced from top to bottom.  The spacing is
approxiamately 2 inches and they are at times hard to
see.  They do show up in videos and when gaming.

I think :robotsad: that my monitor is gooooooooooiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnngggggggggg(don't go
till I get a replacement).  I did some of the tests and
degaused it with no change.

:robotvery-happy:
This monitor has been an excellent monitor over the years with no
previous problems.  I would like to know for sure if those lines are
a sign of a monitor on it's last legs.

any help is appreciated!!!

trifid,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try reinstalling the video card drivers to see if that will resolve the issue that you are having with the monitor.

1   it wouldn't let me post this unless the first character was an integer(lol).

Jesse

This page does not want to load correctly.  I not only reloaded but also updated my drivers.

The problem still exists but the lines are further apart at the bottom of the screen 1"-1.5" and become much closer at the top.  The lines showed up for the first time about a month or more ago.  There have been no changes to my system prior to when I first noticed them.  They are lite red in color and are angled up about 10 degrees from left to right.

I hope you have some idea as to the problem....meanwhile I keep searching.

Thanks!

Tim ;~}

Try the monitorself test (disconnect the vga cable) turn on monitor. If you see the problem then, your monitor has troubles, try a TV repair shop. Might be worth repairing.

Jessie, JDre

and all others having similiar problems.

I ran the monitor self test and it said monitor was fine.  I did notice around the edges
that the lite red lines were still showing (more than 10 lines).  I then rerouted the cable
for the monitor away from all other cables so there would be no interference.  It did
not help :robotsad: when I restarted the system.  The lines showed up on the Dell logo
page.  The pins were all nice and straight when I reattached the cable.

It may be time to call Dell Support and see if I can get Dell's local repair people to call.
I would think they would have run into this problem before that is if I can get past the
support techs(?) in the Philliphines, Pakistan, India and who knows where else.

If you have any more thoughts on this problem let me know.

Thanks for your help!!!
