S2340M not recognized, cannot set proper resolution

We have a user who is using a dell laptop and docking station.  She had just one external monitor (lenovo 23") and we recently just added another, the Dell 23" S2340M - In the display settings, it shows up as a generic PnP monitor and we are unable to set the proper screen resolution.  When trying to install drivers from the CD that came with the monitor, it says that there is no dell monitor detected and drivers will not be isntalled.

I removed the display adapters, rebooted, and it came up as non-generic PnP, and let me set the proper resolution size.  However, it would only let me duplicate the monitors, not extend them.  Using the dell CD again, it still could not recognize the Dell monitor.  Eventually windows automatically re-installed the other display adapter, I was able to extend the monitors rather than duplicate, but the Dell went back to Generic PnP and will not let me set the proper resolution.

I have also tried using either monitor in various combinations of the VGA and DVI ports.

The S2340M should be connected directly to the laptop via its video cable. The driver should then be installed from the website, not the CD. The S2340M should appear in the device manager. Once done, power both off. Connect the S2340M to the dock. Dock the computer. Turn the monitor on, then the laptop. The S2340M should still appear in the device manager. Connect the Lenovo monitor to the dock and configure.
