S2409W, Auto Detect, how is it supposed to work?

Hi, all.

I've got an S2409W connected to two machines: a Vista PC on the DVI input and a Mac Mini on the HDMI input. I'm not sure how the auto detect feature is supposed to work.

I'm switching between inputs manually now. I was hoping that the active input would be automatically selected when changes are detected, or something like that, so that when I wake up the Vista box, its input is selected, and when I wake up the Mac, its input is selected. But I have no idea if this is even a reasonable expectation. If not, I hope that little input selector button is sturdy enough to handle all the presses.

I guess I could get a KVM switch, but DVI KVM switches seem pricey, and I've got a wireless Mac keyboard and mouse on the way.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for the help, Chris. The auto detect feature is working as intended, as afar as I can tell. I can get the monitor to auto detect the computer I want by managing sleep modes on the computers.

Basically, if all computers are asleep, the monitor (in auto detect mode) automatically detects and displays the first one awakened. If all computers are awake and one of the active computers is being displayed, the monitor (in auto detect mode) will change to another active input once the currently-active one is put in sleep mode.

Go into the monitor OSD (On Screen Display)- Input Source and make sure it is on Auto Detect.

Thanks for the reply, Chris. I've done that, but the input selected never changes. That's what has me confused.

Is the input supposed to change automatically? When? What determines when the input will change?
