S2417DG, HDMI not working after DP

I only have problems with this S2417DG when switching between DP and HDMI. I have my PC connected DP (see specs below) and XBOX/NINTENDO SWITCH connected via HDMI.

When I swap between DP (1440p/144Hz) and HDMI (1080p) I get no display. I have sound of the HDMI working however. I've tried both consoles on my TV and they work. It's only on my S2417DG that they do not.

With my last S2417DG, when I swapped, I did not have audio. Dell sent me a replacement. This one caused me to have no DISPLAY. I currently have both S2417DG's here for 10 days while I troubleshoot. BOTH have no display when plugging in HDMI now. This was not the case with my old monitor. Before it was no audio and it had display. Now its swapped?

S2417DG purchased: This is a refurbished one from Dell. Just received it after troubles with audio.

Factory reset: Done in DP and HDMI?

First, click my name and private message me both of the S2417DG service tag numbers, 20 digit serial numbers, and A0x numbers.

Second, how are you connecting BOTH an Xbox AND the Nintendo Switch to the single S2417DG HDMI in port? You cannot just "hot swap" them. The S2417DG has to be turned off when switching devices on the single HDMI in port.

Third,
* Power all off (PC, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, S2417DG)
* Disconnect all video cables from the S2417DG

* Test by itself, Xbox to S2417DG via HDMI to HDMI cable. Does it work?
* Test by itself, Nintendo Switch to S2417DG via HDMI to HDMI cable. Does it work?
* Test by itself, GeForce GTX 980 Ti DP out to S2417DG DP in. Does it work?

The problem always seems to correct itself given time (3-4hrs). Last night i fixed the problem of no display by plugging in my nintendo switch to my other monitor (BenQ and displayed correctly) and then into my dell monitor witch caused it to display properly. I dont think i need this new monitor and ill send it back, but i do think i need clarification on how i should be switching from DP to HDMI. Sounds like i cant simply swap back and forth with both plugged in and ON.  Thanks

Hey Chris, Thanks for the reply. I believe i know my problem. It was infact me and i was doing what you called "hot switching" i believe. While my PC was plugged in and on I have been switching from DP to HDMI. When it would switch over to HDMI i would lose audio. So my understanding now is that it is not like a TV where i can simply swap inputs on the fly, i have to turn off my monitor unplug HDMI turn off other device, turn back on monitor , then swap to other display ? I only mentioned i have a switch  and a xbox for trouble shooting purposes, both are not plugged in at the same time. Anyways the problem only occurs when switching from DP (with computer on ) to HDMI (with console on) And by switching I mean going to dell 2417dg input source manually and selecting other input. So should I keep everything off unplugged when swapping from one device to the other? ( its not like a TV )
