S2716DG, EVGA RTX 2080 Ti

Freshly bought monitor last week. Plugged everything in and monitor was at 24Hz. I switched to higher Hz and my PC crashed. I had to unplug the monitor for my display to work on my second monitor. I checked if all wires were properly connected and view'd a video on YouTube to make sure I wasn't stupid. I am also using factory cables from the monitor.

I power up the monitor again and it stays on a black screen. I recheck the DP on the monitor side and a slight push towards the back on the cable so it has a different angle and it made the monitor work. I couldn't seem to find a way to make it work all the time so I thought about switching side of the cable. My monitor DP went to video card and my video card DP side went to my monitor. Now everything work steady, but I can't go above 85Hz. Could I have a defective DP cable?

I have the 144Hz option and the screen goes in "screen save mode" and finally revert to 85Hz after a while.

Edit: Reinstalled Nvidia Driver and now my 144Hz option is now gone.

Hopefully the monitor isn't without issue and it's only the cable. I'll go to my local store and get another cable and i'm still wondering if any cable is good for 2k 144Hz or do I need a specific model.

*New cable did the trick. Problem: Defective RN698 DP to DP cable

Could I receive a new one please?

For my notes and to check the S2716DG warranty status, click my username and send me the S2716DG service tag number, 20 digit S/N, and A0x revision via private message.

Was this S2716DG purchased new directly from Dell? Read through this article to =
* Disable Nvidia G-SYNC
* Restart the PC
* Enable Nvidia G-SYNC
* Restart the PC. Then retest

It has the latest firmware I have seen, A09. Perhaps the DP to DP cable is faulty. Is there another one around to test? Is there another PC there with Nvidia video card to test the current DP to DP cable and S2716DG? Also, read through these threads. Looks like Nvidia is still tweaking that video card and drivers with G-Sync.

I've purchased directly from dell last week and arrived yesterday. I've done the G-sync step by step and it still doesn't work. I'm stuck at 85hz.

If I unplug and replug the DP cable the option for 144hz comes back and ofcourse doesn't work. I also downloaded the monitor driver(firmware) yesterday with no luck after installation.

I have not experienced screen tearing in a 10hours gaming so far. As for the dp to dp I have no spare one otherwise I would've tried that. Do you have any recommendation for dp to dp cable spec?

I would need to buy a cable for testing however if it's the problem how does dell will service my issue?

It was just a thought. If I had any cable doubt on my monitors, I would not wait for Dell to send me one. I would just pick one up locally the same day to confirm if said issue were the cable or not. If the cable were defective, Dell Support could send you one. But it appears that it is not defective if gaming for 10 hours without issue.
