S2817Q, adding a second display?

Hi

I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 5 hooked up to a Dell S2817Q monitor. I am using a mDP to DP cable to connect.

Now I want to add a second monitor but can't get it to work. The second monitor is an older Dell flat panel with a VGA connection. I have a HDMI to VGA adapter but the all these ports on the S2817Q  seem to be inputs not outputs. Is there a way to add this monitor?

@viasR  Displays typically only have inputs rather than outputs, and the only output they MIGHT have would be DisplayPort, since only DisplayPort supports DP MST daisy chaining -- and if you use that output, then you have to use native DisplayPort, no HDMI/VGA adapters allowed. If your Surface doesn't have another physical output available and you don't want a dock, then the closest you can get would be to get an MST hub like this one. That allows you to tap into this daisy chain capability without needing displays that have built-in support for it.

Thanks. I think I will probably go the docking route.
