Shadows next to dark text on light backgrounds

I recently began using a 2407wfp as a second monitor for my laptop. It has been excellent except for one issue: there are pale shadows visible when viewing dark text on light backgrounds. The shadows fall a few pixels to the right of the letters. Other than this, the monitor appears OK: the image is solid, colors are good, a phase test looks good, no bad motion blurring...

I am using it with an IBM laptop & Radeon Mobility 9600 video card, VGA connector. ATI driver version is 6.14.10.6547. Any ideas on what might be causing this would be much appreciated.
