So frustrated
I'm already frustrated, and all I wanted to do is come beg Dell's help! I signed into My Account with Dell, and then I had to create a second sign-in for this community - but every time I tried, it gave me an "invalidemail" error. It took me 20 minutes of logging out and back in and closing and reopening just to create a username!
Anyways, down to the point. I purchased a Dell 2001FP many years ago. It developed a shimmering vertical stripe on the left side of the monitor, which eventually turned into a wider band of non-shimmering solid rainbow stripes. I tried calling Dell at the time, but got fed up after several attempts because the Dell representatives spoke broken English and couldn't understand what I was trying to explain. I switched back to my old CRT monitor, and when I moved to a new house, I stored the broken Dell monitor in my basement, when I should have gotten warranty replacement.
I replaced my CRT monitor with 2 Samsung LCDs. They started flickering, so I looked up the problem online. The websites I read almost universally said the problem was with two 1000mf capacitors. Excited about a possible fix, I ran to Radio Shack, bought 4 capacitors and a soldering iron, and repaired both monitors and they work GREAT - brighter than ever, no flickering at all.
But then I remembered the Dell monitor in my basement, and was excited that maybe I could fix that too. I searched "dell 2001fp vertical stripes" on Google, and couldn't believe how many hits there were of other people with the same problem I have. It upset me that this exact issue appears to be SO commonplace, and there was no recall, and I was even more upset that Dell probably wouldn't help me because my warranty was expired. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like replacing capacitors fixes the problem, from what I read. Some folks rigged their monitors with fans, while other folks wedged pencil erasers behind the logic board to get the stripes to go away.
Down to the begging. I'd like Dell to help me with my monitor, even though it is no longer under warranty. I feel Dell owes me that because it is my observation that this is a well-known issue on Dell's part with regard to this model of monitor. I'd like Dell to either fix it for me (preferably free, it will already cost me to ship it), or replace it with a newer model that doesn't have this problem, or tell me how to repair it and I'll happily try to repair it myself (going on my presumption that Dell is very aware of this problem and knows how to fix/refurbish them).
Will you help me, Dell?

Jon,
I'd like Dell to either fix it for me (preferably free, it will already cost me to ship it).
* Dell does not repair monitors or sell internal monitor components. We do not even have monitor repair/disassembly documentation. We simply replace them while under warranty. You can try these 3rd party repair sites:
http://www.lcdrepair.com/
http://www.ercservice.com/Express/monitor-repair.html
http://www.shopjimmy.com/dell
or replace it with a newer model.
* No. We will not go that route. It is too far outside of the warranty you purchased.
or tell me how to repair it.
* See the first response.
