SP2309W connection from HD4870
Hi folks,
I'm interested in buying the SP2309W monitor, which I'd plan to connect from my ATI Radeon HD4870 (with a secondary monitor also attached). My version of the HD4870 has two dual-link DVI outputs, and no other video ports. The HD4870 does support 2048 x 1152, but only via dual-link DVI.
From the SP2309W spec sheet it seems that the monitor's DVI input is single-link only, so I'm out of luck there. Is it likely to work ok if I connect from my DVI output, via a DVI-to-HDMI adapter, to the HDMI input on the monitor, please? Any advice that anyone can give me would be much appreciated!
Thanks very much,
Stuart.

Using a DVI Single Link cable, we connected the monitor DVI to a laptop DVI and it came up as 2048x1152 Prime Mode. 2048x1152 is Single Link, not Dual Link.

OK, just to bring this up-to-date, I've also now had a chat with Dell tech support via the LiveChat facility. The agent on there told me that, if I connect an HDMI cable via a DVI to HDMI adapter, then "the kind of clarity derived will not be the best". I'm unsure that this is true though -- my graphics card is able to output HDMI, but only has DVI ports. I think using an adapter will mean that I am able to pass HDMI-quality video to the monitor.
However, I see elsewhere on the web that some people have been advised by Dell that they can just directly connect a DVI cable, even when a graphics card spec says that the higher-than-typical resolution is only supported over dual-link DVI cables. That is, I could just connect a single-link or dual-link cable from the dual-link output on my graphics card to the single-link input on the monitor, and all should work fine. I must admit this makes me nervous though, as I'm concerned that the driver for my graphics card will just refuse to run the monitor at the high resolution, using a single-link connection.
Any experiences that others have had would be much appreciated -- I see from this forum and on others that many people have had problems connecting up this monitor, but the reviews of the display itself are outstanding!

Thanks Chris -- that's very helpful. Since reading around a little more, I see why it was confusing: the capacity of single-link cables is limited by the number of pixels for which data is required ... and so when the ATI spec says that resolutions "up to 1920x1200" are supported over single-link, it actually means "up to 2.75 megapixels" ... and then the dimensions of course vary with the aspect ratio.
After the misleading advice from the Dell LiveChat people (who also promised to get back to me within 3 hours and then didn't do so), I've decided not to go with this monitor in the end, but I hope this thread proves of help to anyone considering it in the future. Thanks so much for your help Chris -- I'm sure your answer will prove useful to others, too.
