SP2309W unable to display image
Well I got home from work tonight and turned on my computer. That's when I found out that out of the blue my SP2309W monitor isn't displaying a picture. I restarted the computer and it did display the initial diagnostic start up text that precedes the starting Windows screen (running Win 7 btw) but then fails to display anything else. Anyway the computer runs and loads Windows fine (verified with another Dell display). Also if I hook up the 2309 to my other computers (laptop and another desktop system) it's the same thing, the power light comes on when you turn on the power, the front panel touch buttons light up from bottom to top, then from top to bottom and go off. Still no display.
Then I tried an experiment with the laptop. If I have the monitor hooked up to the d-sub video connector on my Dell E1405 laptop and then let the monitor go into standby (sleep) mode (flashing amber power button) and then I use the laptops presentation mode to display on the external monitor, then the SP2309W wakes up and actually displays the laptops image for a few seconds, then again turns off.
Seems like something is hosed in the monitor that initially lets the display it has an incoming image but then loses or drops the signal that lets the monitor know that an active signal is still coming through. In any event I've got a Samsung 24" display on order from Newegg because I figure it would cost more to fix this one than it's even worth.

Run the monitor STFC (Self-Test Feature Check) to rule it out as the culprit
* Switch the monitor and PC off
* Disconnect all monitor cabling from the PC (VGA, DVI, HDMI, DP, USB, etc.)
* Disconnect the monitor power cord from the rear of the monitor
* Press and hold the monitor power button in for 5 seconds
* Reconnect the monitor power cord to the rear of the monitor
* Switch the monitor on
* The floating red/green/blue/white dialog box should appear on screen against a black background. If it does then the monitor has passed its STFC

Hi Chris,
I actually followed those troubleshooting steps in the manual. This is what I got:
* Switch the monitor and PC off
* Disconnect all monitor cabling from the PC (VGA, DVI, HDMI, DP, USB, etc.)
* Disconnect the monitor power cord from the rear of the monitor
* Press and hold the monitor power button in for 5 seconds
* Reconnect the monitor power cord to the rear of the monitor
* Switch the monitor on
-- The backlighting comes on, the front panel buttons sequentially light up from E to B, the backlighting goes out, then the buttons continue to A, then reverse sequentially back down again to E.
Then the monitor sits there with only the power button lit.

If you only have a Dell order number for your monitor, you should contact Order Support for your country. If you purchased the monitor bundled with a Dell PC, contact Technical Support for your country. They will need the following data -
Email Address:
Name:
Shipping Address:
Phone Number:
Monitor Order number:
PC Service Tag number if bundled:
Monitor 20 digit PPID number:
Reason: Monitor fails the Self Test
