Suspicious 2407WFP-HC review: ghosting issue "fixed"?
Greetings,
My family and I very recently ordered an XPS420 system through Dell, along with the 2407WFP-HC monitor. The XPS420 arrived today, and the monitor is slated for next week some time.
However, after reading just one-too-many horror stories regarding the monitor's terrible and rampant ghosting issue, I cancelled the order today. Hopefully, this was the right decision... but I must say I am STILL torn. I do not know a whole lot about monitors and their specs, but I fully understand the complaints proposed by the masses on these very forums.
But then I came across the following review on digitalversus.com. It says, and I quote: "It’s rare. Dell took several months to get us their latest screen despite all of its potential, the daily pressure from readers and finally some nagging from us. All of this because the Dell 2407WFP-HC is simply a 2407WFP (first released in 2006), reviewed and improved with a new backlighting system that is supposed to display richer colors, called ‘’
wide gamut’'. So why such a delay ?
Dell had to remedy a production error on the first series because the overdrive was poorly adjusted. This function, whose purpose is to accelerate the movement of liquid crystals, resulted in black afterglow images. We received the corrected version which has been only recently available and there is no longer this problem. In the end, the result is pure joy!"
Now... I thought there existed only one version of the 2407WFP-HC. I thought the issue everyone complains of could not be corrected. Can anyone offer an explanation here?

If you get one that is ghosting or banding you would have to return it in the first 21days and reorder to get a new one, cause once you slip out of the 21 days or what ever the time limit it is for returns on your system you want to buy, you will only get refurbished exchanges.
A new 2408WFP is expected soon, I would wait for that, better specs.

Most likely another S-PVA panel.
Of course how it actually looks and performs is another thing but if it's anything like the new SP2208WFP it'll be good but that's a TN.
I have 3 2407's and banding was a big issue a year ago until it was corrected in version A03 in desktop mode and not in Multimedia and gaming modes.
You might also want to look at different brands of monitors like samsung or read at Hardforum.com under displays to hep you decide.
