Too Many Monitors
I recently installed an NVIDIA GeForce 2 PCI Video Card on my Dimension 4100 computer so my kids could play some games which required it. My problem is that according to my system, I now have 3 monitors.
1. default monitor on NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX400
2. Dell 551 on NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX400
3. Dell 551 on Intel 82810E Graphics Controller 4.12.01.2604
Secondarily, I'm not sure everything is set up correctly because since I installed the video card, my computer will not shut down. The monitor turns off, but not the CPU. I have installed the latest driver for the GeForce 2 card.
Any help?

Dennis,
Did you "Disable" the onboard video card in the bios before installing the new card ?

I have gone into Setup, but when I go to Video Configuration my options are to select "Onboard" or "PCI". My video card is in a PCI slot and I have selected PCI. I do not have the option of disabling the Onboard. Am I missing something?

Dennis,
Select "PCI" and "Save Changes and Exit". This will disable the onboard video card. HTH

I have done that, but I still have three monitors listed. Any other ideas?

Dennis,
What OS are you running ? Where are you reading the three monitors ? Under the "Settings" tab in "Display Properties" or in "Monitors" in "Device Manager"?

Dennis,
Did you remove the drivers for original video card, shut the computer down, remove the card from the AGP slot, install the new PCI video card, reboot and then install the new drivers ? Why did you go from a AGP card to a PCI card ?

The short answer is "No." I did not have an AGP Card on the computer to start with. The original video card was part of the motherboard. I added the PCI video card because we could not run a game my kids received for Christmas. I have not removed anything.
I suppose I could go back to using the video card/motherboard monitor port, then start over in installing the new video card. I will give that a shot soon.

Dennis,
I think you better take a look inside your computer for a AGP video card. According to Dell's specs the 4100 does have a AGP slot (See #9 circled w/arrow)in the screen shot of the 4100 MB below). If you do have a card in there, remove the driver for it, shut down computer, remove card, install new PCI card, reboot and install PCI card drivers.

Dennis,
Go into "Device Manager"-"Monitors" and highlight "default monitor on NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX400" and right click on it, within the box that comes up, choose "Uninstall". Do the same with "Dell 551 on Intel 82810E Graphics Controller 4.12.01.2604. This will leave you with just the "Dell 551 on NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX400" showing. Now you should be good to go.
As far as your shutdown problems, are you running an early version of AOL ? If so, install a newer version as there was a problem with earlier versions on ME. If not try the link here

I need to apologize to you for giving you incorrect information. The computer at my office is a Dell 4100, but the one I'm having problems with is here at home and is a Dell L800r. I am extremely sorry and embarrassed about this. I do appreciate your help to this point
I took the cover off to look inside again for the possible AGP card and realized my mistake. I could not find an AGP slot anywhere.
