U2412M, Windows 11 compatible drivers?

Just upgraded to Windows 11 laptop and have had no success in finding any compatible drivers for a U2412M monitor.  Yes, its very old (mfg. date of 2014) but wondering if there's something that could or should work or is it just destined for the dumpster? There's no service or express code as it was gifted as "no longer wanted" from prev. employer.

The U2412M has no Windows 11 support nor a Windows 11 driver. The U2412M Drivers & Downloads page shows only Windows Vista/7/8/8.1/10.

Although not supported by Dell, Windows 11 might identify the U2412M as, "Generic Non PnP monitor" and assign it a generic driver. You might still be able to set the U2412M to 1920x1200 60Hz.

* Right click the Windows desktop
* Click Display settings
* Click Display
* Under "Scale and layout", look for Display resolution. See if 1920x1200 is listed

The solution above is not a solution. Higher resolutions are not listed. Dell needs to support its legacy equipment!  Update the driver for Win 11 please! Stop forcing people to buy new hardware when what they have still works fine provided you keep it compatible with OS upgrades.

@Jhalbert

I hear your opinion, but we Forum Liaisons can only go by what the public U2412M Drivers & Downloads page SHOWS under the "Operating system" drop down as supported operating systems =

Windows Vista, 32-bit
Windows Vista, 64-bit
Windows 7, 32-bit
Windows 7, 64-bit
Windows 8, 32-bit
Windows 8, 64-bit
Windows 8.1, 32-bit
Windows 8.1, 64-bit
Windows 10, 32-bit
Windows 10, 64-bit

Also, we never called it or marked it as a "solution". I stated, "Windows 11 might identify the U2412M as, "Generic Non PnP monitor" and assign it a generic driver.", "You might still be able to set the U2412M to 1920x1200 60Hz.".

@DELL-ChrisM2 Fair enough. Nothing personal, just replying to what appears to be Dell's response.

I don't know if it will last, but I was able to get a higher resolution by changing cables and reinstalling the monitor. Not sure why that worked, but Windows no longer sees the monitor as "Digital Display" it's back to the Dell U2421M driver. Happy New Year!

@Jhalbert I have the same issue with only a slight variation. Coming out of a sleep, one of my two U2412M monitors occasionally goes into a 640x200 resolution. The "only" way I can get it into 1980x1200 is to disconnect power or signal cables and reconnect. Then, it's okay until the next time. In the "Device Manager," under monitors, "Dell U2412M(DisplayPort) is listed at all times even when the second monitor is in the reduced resolution mode. Dell's solution is to do a clean reinstall of Windows 11. The support people I'm working with say that U2412M is completely compatible. When I present information from other Dell sources about the compatibility issues, I get no response. This is all with a 9 month old Dell Tower Plus with a NVIDIA RTX 4060Ti installed, which has 3 DisplayPorts and 1 HDMI. I've tried every swap combination you can think of from deleting drivers to new cables to exchanging monitors with other computers and have yet to achieve any kind of consistent behavior except to say that the offending monitor works fine with my over 10 year old XPS8700 with a NVIDIA RTX 1050Ti installed. I have a LG monitor with HDMI interface that is normally connected to the XPS8700 that I've tried but it uses the HDMI 4060Ti GPU output and not DisplayPort. Even though I haven't experienced any issues, it's not using the same driver nor a DisplayPort. I'm now in the process of going through all combinations of cable to monitor and DisplayPorts in attempt to establish some sort of consistency. I'll probably waste money on another DisplayPort to Displayport cable today. To say that I'm disappointed and frustrated with Dell support is an understatement.

@DELL-ChrisM2

I have the same problem with Dell U2412M and Win 11 on Dell Latitude 5550.

The max resolution that I can choose is 1920x1080; 1920x1200 is not available :)  , but it was available one month ago.

Please upgrade the driver.

I updated the driver (clean install) to the latest version with no improvement resulting. Then, rolled back the driver to a version proceeding the date I first observed the issue. That didn’t work either. Next was contacting NVIDIA. On a chat, a support tech recommended disabling the DDC/Ci setting on the monitor itself and letting him know if the problem continues. It’s been 48 hours (two lengthy sleep cycles) and the monitor has held steady on the correct resolution. I’ll probably contact NVIDIA later today assuming all remains well. FYI, on the NVIDIA users forum, there was traffic of concern about the last couple driver updates with the game driver. I use the studio version.

@tloewenberg Take a look at the Intel video driver you're using there might be incompatibility between the 32.X intel drivers and the U2412M regaring the EDID version and handshake. Try using an earlier series driver and remove the new ones.

@TechGuy101 I don't use the Intel graphics for anything, so I uninstalled it a long time ago. I have rolled back the NVIDIA driver to a date where I didn't have the issue with no success. The NVIDIA tech support suggested I install the latest version and operate with DDC/CI disabled. They also suggested I check with Dell to see if there's a more recent monitor firmware available. I passed all the info to Dell yesterday (01/15/26) based on the NVIDIA directed troubleshooting. Dell has yet to respond.

@TechGuy101 I finally got feedback through the "DellSupportAssist" portal. After feeding them all the NVIDIA and other Dell telephone support feedback, they finally admitted that they had nothing to offer since the U2412M monitor drivers do not support Windows 11. Funny how both U2412M monitors on my system worked fine up to the first week in December. And that one of the two still functions correctly and so does my other one if I disable DDC/CI. Then, the portal supervisor asked if that was all I needed. I exploded and told him exactly how poor I felt the support I received from his organization was. The ONLY thing they offered from day one was for me to do a clean reinstall of Windows 11, nothing else. When I called the telephone support, that representative freely admitted that the other Dell support group suggestion without offering anything else was over the top and draconian. The Dell phone and NVIDIA support were lauditory. The portal was a waste of time and effort. I'm almost sorry I provided them status during my troubleshooting efforts.
