U2413, suddenly recognized as 'non PnP'

Question

This morning when I started up my computer, it was set to lower than usual resolution (1024x768 vs 1920x1200) and no sound output for the monitor was available. It turns out it no longer recognizes the monitor as Dell U2413, but instead as "non PnP". The monitor is connected via HDMI.

Also, my Apple keyboard which was connected to the monitors internal USB hub was completely dead. The mouse and webcam, which are also connected to the monitors USB hub, still work.

I've tried using the DisplayPort instead of HDMI but that gives no picture at all.

I did the monitor self test (holding buttons 1 and 5), and the panel works perfectly with all the colors.

Is the monitor broken?

@dr_gbg  Not sure what may have happened here, but you didn't specify what system you're using.  It's fine if it's a non-Dell system, fyi.  The reason I ask is that I'm curious why DisplayPort didn't work as a possible workaround even if that shouldn't be necessary.  Assuming you remembered to switch the display over to the DisplayPort input, if you tried a DisplayPort to HDMI cable, typical passive versions of those cables and adapters only work to connect a DisplayPort source to an HDMI input; they can't be used to connect an HDMI output to a DisplayPort input.  But I don't know how you tried to use the DisplayPort input since I don't even know what system you're working with, never mind what cable/adapter you used.

As an alternative to HDMI, I used the U2413's mini-displayport input. I have used this before with the same computer setup, when I needed the HDMI input for a secondary source. I did remember to switch inputs on the monitor.

My computer is a Dell XPS 9500 with a Dell WD19TB dock. The monitor is connected to the dock. But the setup did not change over night. I suspect maybe a power surge or something happened during the night, causing permanent damage to the monitor. That would also explain why the keyboard was broken in the morning.

@dr_gbg  Ah ok, didn't realize there was a dock involved too.  I agree that nothing should have changed overnight, but if other equipment is damaged too, then that definitely complicates things.  If you happen to have a USB-C to DP or USB-C to HDMI cable/adapter in order to test the display when directly connected to the XPS 15, that might be a useful data point to rule out a dock problem as the culprit if you haven't already done that.  I think the XPS 15 9500 ships with a USB-C to HDMI adapter?

Just a final update on this topic:

I tried connecting different devices (including XPS9500 with HDMI adapter) to the U2413 HDMI input and nothing works. It's just black. So I think the input is somehow broken.

I also tried the mini-displayport input again and, what do you know, it works. I must have done something wrong the last time I tried. The DVI-input works too. So this monitor stays with me and I'm happy because I really like it.
