U2414H, output to HDMI

Hey all,

I'm building out a home office in a more effective way for video conferencing and one part of my setup leads me to a simplified screen share. In essence I am running all video feeds into an HDMI based switcher (Blackmagic Atem Mini). One thing I would love to do is run one of my Dell monitors into the switcher as well. In my mind that would allows me to switch to a screen-share by a quick press of a button on the switcher. Is that possible? I know the monitor has a display port output and I have a display port to HDMI adapter, however I don't get a signal. 

Please advise if what I'm trying to do is even possible. Simplified I just want a mirror of the monitor going to an HDMI input.

@akurze  I'm confused about what you're trying to achieve by running a display "into a switcher".  An HDMI switcher takes inputs from multiple possible sources and is connected to one or more displays, and then allows you to choose which source signal gets sent to one or more outputs.  Are you trying to use this display with one of the outputs from the splitter?  If so, then connect one of the HDMI outputs from the splitter into the HDMI input of the display.

Or are you trying to replicate the signal currently being shown on the display so that it ALSO goes into the splitter, essentially running it into an INPUT on the splitter?  If so, then the DisplayPort output isn't really used for that purpose.  The DisplayPort output is designed to allow you to set up a display daisy chain so that the source device will see multiple attached displays even though it only has a cable connected to the first display in the chain.  In theory if your source device supported daisy chaining then it could see the U2414H and this splitter as independent displays and then you could configure the device to run them in Duplicate/Mirror mode.  However, setting up a daisy chain has some requirements.  First, you'd have to be sending a native DisplayPort signal into the U2414H.  If the original source is connected to HDMI, that won't work.  You need to use a DisplayPort or USB-C output port from the source and connecting it to the DisplayPort or Mini-DisplayPort input of the U2414H.  And second, normally a daisy chain requires native DisplayPort signaling along the entire chain.  A typical DisplayPort to HDMI cable relies on the DisplayPort source supporting "Dual Mode DisplayPort", a capability that allows it to send a native HDMI signal.  But you can't do that in a daisy chain.  The way you can sort of cheat here on the connection to the LAST display (or splitter in your case) is by using an active DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, like this one.  That adapter includes a signal converter chip, which means the source can continue sending a native DisplayPort signal, as required for a daisy chain, and the conversion to HDMI happens within the adapter itself.  This only works for the signal going to the LAST display in the chain because a display receiving an HDMI signal can't continue a daisy chain farther downstream -- so for example if you had a daisy chain consisting of 3 displays, you couldn't use this on the signal running into Display #2, otherwise the daisy chain would end on that display.

Hopefully that was the information you needed.  If not, going forward it would be a bit better to more precisely describe what you're trying to achieve.

That being said, we do want to caution against using our DisplayPort to HDMI Active Adapter in an MST daisy chain configuration. It is more often the exception, rather than the rule, that the adapter can be used at the end of an MST daisy chain.

We've encountered instances where a monitor at the end of the daisy chain may display through our adapter, but then turn off the first display in the chain. In most cases it just doesn't work in that configuration. DisplayPort chaining is designed for DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort connections, and that is the recommended configuration.
