U2414H rear USB port not function

Question

Hi all

I am using Dell U2414h monitor connected with my surface pro 3 with the mini display cable and usb upstream cable to serve as a second monitor and usb hubs, and I always plugged a portable harddisk at the high powered rear usb port at the back of the monitor because I don't have any other usb port on my surface pro3...

Today I found my portable harddisk showing connected and disconnected message continuously and so I try to unplug the harddisk and reconnect it to see whether the problem can fix. But when I plugged the portable harddisk at the rear usb port again it didn't turn on. I tried to plug the portable harddisk directly to my surface pro 3, it works and readable.

Then I tried a series of troubleshooting:

-switch off all the device and reconnect all thew cables

-using another usb cable to connect the portable harddisk

-using another upstream cable between surface pro 3 and U2414H

-plug a low powered device (memory stick) at rear usb port

-using another computer

It seems the rear USB port don't have any power and cannot be use anymore, since I am using soundbar AC511 connected at the bottom usb port of U2414h, I am sure the bottom three ports are still works.

Does anybody can help?

Umm.. Is it still work even I disconnect the power cable and press and hold the power buttom for 30 seconds?

Sorry I misunderstand your procedure cause you just stated disconnect all cables including the power one and then press the power button which at this moment power cord is unplugged.

After resetting the power the rear USB works again, Thanks a lot.

But what is the principle behind pressing the power button for 30sec? It shows nothing after this action.

I do not understand your question? After doing the power reset as I described, then reconnecting all cabling, does the rear/back USB port function?

It is not going to 'show' you anything. It just resets the monitor internally.
