U2414H, USB-C to mDP issue

Question

I have four Dell U2414H monitors. I would like to daisy-chain two of them to my ThinkPad X1 Extreme computer. But now even connected to one monitor, will not work.

I tried an USB-C to mDP cable, and select DisplayPort as my income source. But the monitor says "No signal coming from your computer". I also tried an USB-C to mDP adapter, same error message.

Both the cable and the adapter support 4K at 60 Hz, so it should work? Is there anything I can do to make this work?

If using this setup =

ThinkPad X1 USB Type-C out port --> USB Type-C to mDP cable --> #1 U2414H mDP in port

The U2414H Input Source should be set to mDP (Mini DisplayPort), not DP (DisplayPort).

Thanks for your reply.

The cable one end is mDP, another end is just DP. So the DP end is plugged into the monitor.
But just for testing I test both of the Input Sources anyway.

When select “Display Port” as the input source, “No signal coming from your computer." message showed.
When select “Mini DisplayPort” as the input source. “No Mini DisplayPort Cable” message showed.

The DP cable I have been using in on my Desktop for two years, so I think the cable should be fine also.
I also tried both of USB-C ports on my Thinkpad and both have Thunderbolt logo on it.

Is there anything else I can try? I really need for work.

Thanks for your reply. Some how my earlier reply disappeared. so I retype it again.

The cable I use one end is mini DP and another end is just DP. The mini DP end is connected to the USB-C to Mini DP adapter, the DP port end is connected to the monitor. But I tried both input source for testing anyway.

if I choice DisplayPort as the input source, the screen shows error message: "No signal coming from your computer", if I choice Mini DisplayPort as the input source, the screen shows error message: "No Mini DisplayPort Cable."

Is there a firmware upgrade or anything else I can try? I really need this for work.

We never offered downloadable firmware updates on the U2414H monitor. Something is broken there in that cable/adapter chain.

You need to purchase online or locally a straight "USB Type-C to DP cable".

ThinkPad X1 USB Type-C out port --> USB Type-C to DP cable --> U2414H DP in port

Hi Chris: I got a new USB Type-C to DP cable, it works for one monitor now. but when I tried to daisy-chain two of them. The second monitor does not get detected by the computer? I am sure, I plugged the input and output cable correctly, and selected the input source correctly. Any ideas? Thank you

If this is your setup below, then I would test that same setup on another PC that has a USB Type-C out port. If the same issue follows those two U2414H, then one of them is faulty. If the other PC works, then the fault has to be with the ThinkPad X1.

PC USB Type-C out port --> USB Type-C to DP cable --> #1 U2414H DP in port (DP 1.2 Enabled)
#1 U2414H DP out (right) --> U2414H DP to mDP cable --> #2 U2414H mDP in (center) (DP 1.2 Disabled)
