U2415, DP will not connect
U2415 monitor will not connect. Get "no DP connection" message. New out of the box yesterday from Dell. Tried both of the supplied DP connectors. Also tried HDMI to HDMI. I was assured by sales that the latter connection was sure to work. Now Dell tech support tells me my only option is an expensive (~$60) VGA to DP adapter. My computer is an 18 month old Dell XPS 8700 running windows 8.1. Looks like a return if that is even possible. Been buying all Dell for 20 years but this may be the end of it.

The service tag you provided takes us here? Anyway,
So there are two ways to connect =
Nvidia GeForce GT 635 HDMI out --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> U2415 (far left looking at the rear) HDMI in
* Press the U2415 Menu button
* Go to Input Source
* Choose HDMI 1
Nvidia GeForce GT 635 DP out --> U2415 DP to mDP cable --> U2415 mDP in
* Press the U2415 Menu button
* Go to Input Source
* Choose MiniDisplayPort

Both can only do 1920x1200 60Hz. If you had speakers attached directly to the monitor, then you could use DP out of the video card to mDP in on the monitor. Then configure the audio Playback device. But I always leave my speakers connected directly to the computer.

I cannot find any computer VGA out to monitor DP/mDP active converters. The XPS 8700 uses the onboard Intel HD4600 video through both the onboard HDMI out and DP out. You mentioned VGA out which must mean that you have a discrete video card installed. If so, what specific video card ? List all the out ports on it.

I have whatever was the standard configuration at the time I bought it. The service tag is [ Admin note, service tag removed. ] TD if you can access that info. It has VGA, HDMI and DP ports. Dell tech support told me none other than the VGA would support this monitor. I am not optimistic about being able to use the monitor if it has to be Gerry rigged.

My configuration was whatever was standard for the XPS 8700 at the time of purchase 18 months ago. The service code is if you can access it. It has VGA, PD and HDMI ports. Tech support says only VGA to DP will work on this monitor with my computer. Makes no sense.

Thanks! I got totally bogus information from Dell tech support. I am now connected via HDMI. Is there any advantage to connecting with the DP to mDP option? If so I will change to it. The core issue was that NOTHING in the package gave setup information. I did not realize the tiny, barely visible dots along the bottom were optical menu buttons. I had looked for physical buttons.
