U2415, trouble with daisy chaining
Hi there!
I recently came into possession of two U2415 monitors. I’ve never had a dual monitor setup before and it would be beneficial!
However, I am having difficulties with daisy chaining, specifically the DisplayPort. Both monitors connect just fine individually using HDMI to my computer, but when I try to daisy chain them via DisplayPort, it isn’t working.
Right now, when the cord is disconnected, it shows that the monitor does not have input. But as soon as I plug the DP cord in from one monitor to the second, it visibly detects the cord and immediately goes into power saving mode.
It’s been the same for both monitors, and I’ve tried as many things as I could find:
- Making sure the first monitor has DP1.2 enabled while the second does not
- Replacing my DP to DP cord
- Unplugging all the cords, waiting, plugging them back in
- Restarting computer and monitors
- Factory resetting both monitors
- Making sure the cords are in the right places (DP out to DP in)
I will note that I AM using a Mac Mini, HOWEVER I am NOT running it on macOS. It’s been running Windows on Intel HD 5000 for a few years now. I’ve heard MacOS poses problems for daisy chaining but Windows does not! I also will note that neither of the monitors will connect directly to the computer via DP —> Thunderbolt, which leads me to believe it may be an issue with DP as a whole, though I’m not using it anywhere except between the two monitors.
My setup is Mac Mini (Windows OS) —> Monitor 1 (via HDMI) —> Monitor 2 (via DisplayPort)
Is there any way I can possibly get this to work?
Thank you!

Update: I figured it out! I needed to switch the cable connecting the first monitor to the computer to a thunderbolt —> DP cable rather than an hdmi cable. Was not aware that they were incompatible!

Good troubleshooting! Correct, any usage of HDMI breaks the DP daisy chain. This is shown in the online U2415 User's Guide page 27. It is using =
PC DP out --> #1 U2415 DP in
#1 U2415 DP out --> #2 U2415 DP in
