U2711: icm-profile
I want to take the most advantage of my U2711’s wider gamut capabilities on my win7, IE9, CS6, LR4.1-system. I should note, that I do not have access to at calibration unit so I have to rely on the calibration from the factory
So, I use software with color management-capabilities (win7 & IE9) and "adobe RGB 1998" in color settings i CS6.
However, I’m not sure of this:
- Should I install the u2711.icm in “color management” in win7 or should I use replace it with Adobe RGB 1998.icc-profiles, see ill. below (a lot of debate on various forums in this!)
- Which “preset mode” on the monitor should be use: 1)standard or 2)Adobe RGB. My guess
would be “standard” as I don’t want to force the monitor to use Adobe RGB (for that matter sRGB) if the picture doesn’t use any of these profiles.

Why don't you test all of the variables and tell us which one is best on your specific monitor?

Why don't Dell just tell me how it is supposed to work? The presetmodes are not even commented in the User's Manuel?!

The Preset Modes in the manual are just a guide. We cannot post all of the variables because each video card will react differently to the monitor. You are going to have to experiment with the ICC and the ICM and the modes to find what suits you best.

I have two u2711 and have a few issues with the calibration using the supplied 2711.icm. I searched the internet to get as much information that I could about the various ways of getting the best use of my dual setup. I must say that I am now informed about what the community of U2711 owners worldwide are thinking about the process. It's the most confusing bunch of information I have ever seen!!...with not a word from Dell at any of the forums. I realize now that Dell is not as committed as I thought in helping endusers with highly technical answers to calibration issues with the latest sotware operating systems, graphic cards and photoediting software. I realize that there are a myraid amount of combinations but when an excellent product line such as this monitor comes out especially with the feature set and extremely high gamut I would expect more high end service from Dell. My best advice for anyone reading this is to leave the monitor on standard mode, install the ICM in Windows in color management, reduce the brightness as low as you can, don't even bother to calibrate with an external device(because at a lower brightness the factory calibration will last longer), and in 4 years or so just give them away and buy new ones. This can really solve a lot of headaches and time.
