U2711 power save mode problems

Hi,

I recently bought 2 U2711 Dell monitors and am quite happy with them.

I have them connected via DVI to a MSI ATI Radeon 4870.

I do have however 2 problems with them, which may be related.

The first problem is that whenever I restart my computer the monitors go during the shutdown part to power save mode and they won't return on again when the computer is starting up again. I have to press the power button for a couple of seconds to shut down the computer and then again start the computer to get the monitors to recognize the computer again. Any ideas how to solve this, it is kinda annoying...

The second problem also has to do with the power save mode. If I don't use the monitors while in windows 7 they go to power save mode as set in the power options, this is fine. The problem is however that also the USB ports on the monitors are shut down when the monitor goes to shut down mode. I have my printer connected to one of the USB ports of a U2711 and this printer can't reconnect when the monitors go back online. I first have to restart my computer before the printer works again, however this is kind of difficult because of the first problem.

I hope someone can help me with this.

thank you!

* What happens after reboot if you toggle the monitors power button Off, then On?

The second problem also has to do with the power save mode. If I don't use the monitors while in windows 7 they go to power save mode as set in the power options, this is fine. * If you allow the monitor into PowerSave Mode, the USB ports are turned off. This is by design. There is no fix for this.

first problem: nope nothing happens still goes directly to power save mode.

second problem: the problem is not that the ports don't work when in power safe mode, the problem is that the printer still doesn't work after the monitor isturned back on. The only way to get the printer working again is restarting the computer.

thx!

You should use the usb ports on the monitor for non essential hardware used occasionally like a camera, card reader etc. The printer needs to be directly connected to a usb port on the computer.  Your first problem is something that I have found with newer monitors that are "energy saving."  I've been looking for a solution, too. So far the only thing I found effective is to use the menu on the monitor itself to turn off the Energy Save feature. Even that doesn't work all the time, but it is much less often. Look at all the Advanced Power Settings in Power Options for your power scheme. If you have a desktop computer, make sure Hybrid Sleep and Hibernation are set to Never. You can still use Hibernation by selecting it  from the Shutdown menu. Hybrid Sleep is for laptops.

Great help! THX! I was thinking of getting a new card anyway, nice that it solves this problem as well.
