U2711 - Screen intermittently blacks out
I just got my NEW dell u2711 and it seemed to work fine for the 1st day or 2 then it would intermittently blackout while in windows and in games. Sometimes it'd flicker on and off very quickly and some time it'd stay black for 2-5 seconds. This should not be happening with a new monitor.
Im using
Windows 7 64bit
Evga GTX 460 SLI
Nvidia Driver 256.96
Have the power plugged into the wall and i've try'd all the cords.. nothiing fixes the problem. Any input would be nice.
I know this is imac 27inch but this is exactly whats happening to my monitor no matter what im doing.
Dell U2711 youtube video same blackout

List the video card ports. List all the ports that have the issue on the monitor. List the cabling, like video card DVI to monitor DVI.

Using the Dual Link DVI that came with the monitor.
Seems to be happening when i use eithier of the 2 dvi ports. I refuse to use the vga or single dvi cable since i bought this monitor for its high resolution. I do not have display port on the vid card.
Why buy a porche and drive only 10miles a hour.
Any ideas?

To me that looks like a video card issue. I've seen similar issues with overheating GPUs. If possible you could try the monitor with a different computer to help pinpoint the issue.

Id like to think its the video cards but I doubt it. My EVGA GTX 460 1GB cards runs at 36'c idle and 72'c full load. Although i do not have another computer to test the monitor with .. I do have another monitor.
I have a gateway 24inch connected with a DVI cable running at 1920x1280. Under idle temps i have NO backouts. Under full load temps i have NO blackouts. In SLI configuration I experience NO blackouts. In single card mode I experience NO blackouts.
My NEW dell U2711 is connected with the Dual Link DVI cable running at 2560x1440. Under idle temps I experiance intermittent blacks. Under full load temps I experiance Intermittent blackouts. In SLI/Single card configurations i experience intermittent blackouts with idle/load temps in both Windows and games.
Without changing anything but the monitor and the DVI cords I experience rock solid performance with my gateway 24inch and the U2711 runs very very poorly.
Both monitors and card setups use the Nvidia 258.96 drivers. So I reallllllyyyyy doubt its a graphics card issue.
Anyone got any ideas..

As im writing this im getting intermittent black outs.. so i thought hey! what if i hit the menu button on the bottom right of my monitor while it was blacked out for a sec.. if its the video card the menu.. should stay.. but it turns out i even lose the MENU for the monitor when it blacks out. I cannot select any imputs or presets.. or brightness.. etc.. when my screen is black no matter how many time i hit the little blue button.

Then I'd believe it is indeed a defective monitor. I would have it exchanged.
