U2716D, Apple, Spyder5 Express, calibration issues

Hello.

I am trying to calibrate my Dell U2716D monitor for work purposes using Spyder5 Express and all the calibration result I get have some problems with the grey tones, they don't look neutral and there is a very noticeable color banding in black to white gradients. Can you please help me solve this issue and get my monitor to show good and correct colors? I am using a mac if that matters.

For my internal Dell notes, click my name and private message me the monitor service tag number and 20 digit serial number.

We do not have a U2716D monitor? Do you mean the UP2716D monitor? If yes, Dell only tested/validated it with the our OEM version of the X-Rite DUCCS calibration software and the X-Rite i1Display Pro colorimeter. The Apple OS version of X-Rite DUCCS calibration software is here. Dell did not provide a specific Apple OS driver.

For assistance with the retail Spyder5 Express, you should contact them here. Here is the Spyder5 Express User Manual. You should also post on the Apple Forum to get assistance from other Apple users.

Banding in graphics card calibration is caused by one or more of these:

-bad calibration suite or wrong settings: use DisplayCAL in its slowest mode and WLED correction.

-graphics card unsuitable for proper calibration: almost all integrated intel graphics cards, a lot of nvidias (even newer ones if you use DVI or 8bpc in link)...

-inaccurate measurement device: ALL spyders

-color management with limited precision and no temporal dithering: use simpler ICC profiles for profiling your monitor with equal TRCs (single curve in DisplayCAL) and/or use software that is color managed and has some temporal dithering like LR, CaptureOne or since you have a Mac, Ps with 10bit outout enabled even if you do not own a 10bit display (Apple's driver for OpenGL is suposed to do temporal ditheing as a trick)
