U2717D, stand compatible with U2417H?

Hi folks,

Quick question - Is the Dell U2717D monitor stand compatible with the Dell 2417H monitor?
(Thinking of repurposing my old stands)

Help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

The U2717D for some reason ended up with a significantly wider stand than most other Dell displays, including the U2717D's successor the U2719D.  (That incidentally became an annoyance because Dell makes a soundbar designed to attach to their "regular" stand that covers the vast majority of their displays -- but not the U2717D -- and they never made a variant compatible with that display.)  That said, the actual display panel attachment point I believe is the same design, so you'd just have a thicker stand than you normally would.  But the bigger variable is the tension of the counterspring that's designed to keep the display's vertical height set wherever you set it.  That's tuned to the weight of the display the stand is designed to use.  If you attach a significantly lighter display, the tension will be too high and stand will raise the display.  If the display is heavier, the tension will be too low and the display will sag down to the bottom.  This is why third-party display arms have adjustable tension.  The weight difference between these particular displays might not be enough to matter here, but I suspect the only way you'll find out for sure will be to try it out and see what happens -- unless someone who's actually tried this exact swap happens to see this and post their experience.  Good luck!
