U2722DE, USB downstream problems

Hi,

I just received my U2722DE monitor and I am currently setting it up. I am using the monitor exclusively with my Dell XPS 9560 laptop connected with the USB-C upstream port. On the monitor itself, I have some USB-A devices connected (Focusrite 2i2, Arturia keyboard, printer, keyboard-mouse usb dongle).

Here is my issue: when my laptop is already ON, if I plug the USB-C upstream cable, I get my extended monitor view on the U2722DE, I have the 90W charging and I see that my USB-A devices are POWERED (LED lights are ON), but they are not NOT WORKING on the laptop (for example, the Focusrite does not show up in my list of audio outputs). I tried to reconnect USB-A devices, restart the monitor, replug the USB-C upstream, but still no USB devices are working.

The only way I am able to make the monitor work properly as a hub is if my laptop is OFF, I plug the USB-c upstream to the laptop, then put the monitor ON, then boot up my laptop ON. Now I have all I need. If I try to unplug and replug USB-C upstream at this time, the monitor USB hub will no longer work until I reboot the laptop.

Please help

A monitor is passive, all it does is await direction from the XPS 9560 and operating system. A monitor cannot force a PC to act.

When the XPS 9560 is OFF, you connect it to the U2722DE, then turn the XPS 9560 ON. At that point the XPS 9560 and operating system establish both the video and data (USB) pathways TO the U2722DE.

If the XPS 9560 is already turned ON, then you connect it to the U2722DE, the XPS 9560 and operating system are responsible for establishing the video and data pathways TO the U2722DE. But the XPS 9560 and operating system are not doing this, not sure why?

One thing that might help is to ALSO connect the provided USB-C to USB-A cable and retest.

See pages 13-14 in the online U2722DE User's Guide.

XPS 9560 left side TB/USB-C --> U2722DE USB-C to USB-C cable --> U2722DE #5 USB-C (Video + Data)

XPS 9560 left side USB-A --> U2722DE USB-A to USB-C cable --> U2722DE #7 USB-C Upstream
