U3011, red vertical line

Hello,

I have a Dell U3011 monitor with a Quadro 2000 graphics card & Precision T3400. Out of nowhere I started to get pink/red vertical lines across the monitor exactly half way. Here is what I tried:

1) Several different Nvidia graphic cards including FX 380

2) Reinstalling and installing the driver

3) I am using DVI connection with no adapter

4) When I do a LCD conditioning test I do not see the lines

5) When I change the monitor I do not see the lines

6) Top level Nvidia support feels it may be a firmware issue with the monitor where there is an incompatibility but are perplexed why did it start out of nowhere when nothing has changed.

7) Cant stand the grey area where is it the computer, monitor, driver or cable.

Google really does not bring up much and I am the 1st case for Nvidia with this problem.

Thanks for reading

Yes! I've solved the issue. I bought another cable with on both sides a dual link connector (DVI-D) and now the monitor works perfectly!

Does the red line appear on the U3011 while running the U3011 stand alone (disconnected from all video cards) Self-Test? If not, then the U3011 itself is fine and the issue must be with the video cards.

Thanks for the quick reply.

That is my frustration. The monitor tests fine and the computer and card works fine with any other monitor LG, Acer, NEC, etc.

My problem is that the Nvidia Cards do not play nice with this monitor and I get ping ponged back -n- forth between Nvidia & Dell.

I have spent countless hours on this challenge and unless thousands complain I do not see it ever being resolved.

Sorry to vent but I spent a lot of money and time and really do not know where to go with this. Maybe YouTube to see if anyone else has seen this problem?

Any advice will be appreciated

I purchased the monitor less than a year ago and have lived with this problem on & off for approx 7 months.

Try an other DVI-D DL cable.

Maybe, but there are different kinds of DVI-D DL cables?

Hi Mr Dumpystig,

Not sure what you are questioning. My point is that since it is rare it will not make sense to utilize a lot of resource manpower to it vs more common problems.

I do not know if you have solved this issue by now, but I just stumbled upon this post after having bought a brand new monitor and it instantly displayed red lines across the screen. Have you checked to make sure the DVI connector is compatible with what you are using? Is it a DVI-D connector, DVI-I connector, or a DVI-A connector? Have you also checked to make sure that the connector doesn't have any recently bent or broken piece on it that could be the source of the problem?

Thanks for the reply and feedback. I exchanged the monitor with a Dell refurb that Dell sent and the problem has gone away at the moment. I need to remember and check if I used the same DVI connector.

Thanks again!

Hello,

I have a similar problem with my Dell 1750 Inspiron. Bought it from QVC in 2010 and only recently began using it (as of November 2011). Out of the blue, I have red lines across the monitor and cannot access anything. Beeping begins after about 3 minutes of trying to boot up. I have no one to help me and I'm not notebook savvy.  Can you offer me any advice? Thank you. After spending almost 1K on this notebook with it's bells and whistles, I am very disappointed in Dell and QVC.  When I enter the service tag online via Dell, it notes the notebook is from 2005.
