U3014, DVI connection, cannot get 2560x1600

Just purchased new New U3014 UltraSharp 30-Inch PremierColor monitor via Amazon. I'm not very experienced or knowledgeable about computers. I connected the monitor to my PC via DVI connection.  My PC recognizes this monitor model but the highest resolution "offered" is 1920x1080 so I cannot get 2560x1600. Other than this issue, the picture looks fine however my PC seems to have slowed down quite a bit. I would try to connect via DP or miniDP but my PC isn't able to take these inputs. My graphics card or driver is AMD Radeon HD 6570 which, according to its specs, can achieve 2560x1600 via "Dual-link DVI with HDCP". I don't know what that last bit means - is this my problem?  If so, how can I deal with it?

Update: after 2 hours on the phone with Dell tech support, I was told that an HDMI to HDMI-DVD cable from monitor to PC should fix the problem.  Bought the cord, changed the monitor settings to HDMI and... it didn't work.  The only thing I can think of at this point is that my PC is somehow not capable of producing 2560x1600 images but I have no idea if that makes any sense.  Anyone with any ideas?

JBSMR88,

The U3014 requires a DVI-D Dual Link cable to get 2560x1600. Look at the end of the DVI cable that you are using and match it to one of these.

Thank you.  However, I just got off the phone with Dell tech support.  They conferenced in HP tech support.  The HP guy said that my computer (HP Pavilion h8-1090t) doesn't have HDMI or DP output or ports.  He said that I would have to install a new graphics card with HDMI/DP port.  This kind of makes sense to me.  Would you agree?

That would only be the case if they have confirmed that your video card DVI port cannot do the high resolution. Meaning it is DVI-D Single Link 1920 and not DVI-D Dual Link 2560. But it could be DVI-D Dual Link 2560 and you just have the incorrect cable. Your cable pins need to look like the one on the left.
