U3219W, U3818DW, both stopped detecting USB Type-C video
We've had these two monitors, one U3219W and one U3818DW, for almost a year now, regularly using three different laptops with them.
- Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th gen
- Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 4th gen
- MacBook Pro 2020
Connection is Laptop USB Type-C port --> USB Type-C cable --> U3219W/U3818DW USB Type-C port.
Everything has worked just fine. Just plug in the USB Type-C cable that came with the monitor for charging, USB devices and video. Easy peasy.
The other day when plugging in the Yoga in the U3219W, I got the message "No usb type-c signal from your device" on the monitor. But USB devices plugged into the monitor still worked, and the laptop was still charging.
I tried the other two laptops. Same issue.
I tried HDMI, which worked. And I could still use the attached USB devices, and it still charged.
Then I tried the U3818DW, and it had the same issue.
I tried a different cable. Same issue. I even bought a brand new "high quality" cable. Same issue.
I contacted Dell Support, who kindly sent me a replacement U3219W. When I got it, I plugged in the Carbon, and everything worked fine again. After a few hours, I needed to plug in the Yoga. And got "No usb type-c signal from your device".
So I went back to the Carbon, and got the same message, even though it just worked a few minutes before...
I tried the Carbon with the U3818W. I get "No usb type-c signal from your device" and on top of that the laptop screen flickers. Again, HDMI works, and I can use USB devices and charge via USB-C. The Yoga doesn't display but at least it doesn't flicker.
I've connected all the laptops to a USB Type-C dock connected to a U3415W. That works fine.
I've performed factory reset, power button reset, self-test and diagnostic multiple times on both monitors. I've checked their firmware and it is up to date. I even downgraded and upgraded the firmware on one of the monitors.
I'm starting to question my sanity at this point. Any ideas would be most welcome.

I'm having exactly the same issue but not with a U2419C. But with a whole bunch of other monitors and laptops. It's worked fine for 8-9 months and within a day, nothing works.
Background
For about eight months we have used a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen5, a ThinkPax X1 Yoga Gen3, and MacBook Pro 2019, connecting via USB-C to a Dell U3219Q and a Dell U3818DW. One cable for video, power, and USB.
Problem
A few days ago, when connecting the ThinkPad X1 Yoga to the Dell U3219Q, there was no picture. "No USB Type-C signal from your device" was displayed on the monitors. External Mouse and Keyboard, as well as charging, worked fine.
Tried the other ThinkPad and the MacBook. Same result.
Tried the U3818DW. Same result.
Troubleshooting
Dell kindly sent a replacement U3219Q. I plugged in the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, and it worked fine. My wife got another ThinkPad X1 Yoga from work and plugged it in. No signal detected. And after that the ThinkPad X1 Carbon did not work either.
I have tried different cables, including a high-end one I bought. We have tried different USB-C ports on the laptops, and different resolutions.
All the laptops work fine with a USB-C dock and a monitor. So they are obviously capable of sending a USB-C video signal.
I have downgraded and upgraded monitor firmware. I have factory reset the monitors and run diagnostics numerous times. No joy.
I tried the three laptops via USB-C with a U2719DC monitor. Everything works fine.
I finally tried another MacBook Pro 2019 on the U3818DW, and it works.
Then I went back and tried the U2719DC again. It now no longer takes USB-C.
What now?
I can get the monitors replaced as they are in warranty, but I don't want to just have the same issue again. Could this be a surge/short of some kind in the laptop ports that damages the monitor ports?
