U3415W, menu access?

I just purchases a dell 34" u3415w monitor which arrived yesterday to use as an external monitor with a macbook pro 2010.  Well, it doesn't work in any way/shape/form with the laptop.  The issue is with the MACBOOK I'm sure, because the mac slows to a grinding halt when I connect the monitor and it doesn't output any video signal.  I've been testing different solutions from forums, one of them is to change the OSD settings on the monitor, to change the DP 1.2 protocol.  Which brings me to my current question here on the Dell forum:

When I touch any of the four "buttons" on the front of the monitor, every one only gives me the "input selection" quick menu.  I can't seem to access the main menu or any other settings on the monitor.

I've tried with the monitor not connected to any computer, powered on and off, disconnected power source... yet all four touch buttons only show the input select menu.  Is this normal behavior for the monitor?

Due to Apple hardware not being tested by Dell, I am guessing that you are connecting like this?
MacBook Pro Thunderbolt/mDP out --> U3415W mDP to DP cable --> U3415W DP in (next to the HDMI in)

From the U3415W User's Guide page 31. You would choose DP not mDP and Disable =

Yes!  Thank you for that page reference.  Holding down for 8 seconds gave me the DP config message and with DP 1.2 disabled, not only is the monitor getting a signal from the mac, the mac is working at normal speeds.

Yay! I love this monitor size and i'm so happy working on it :)

this worked to bring up the DP config menu, which in turn solved my issue completely.  mac is working at normal speed with the DP 1.2 disabled and the beautiful external monitor is glorious.  Thanks Chris M
