U4919DW, Lenovo ThinkPad P1, docking station, display issue

We have a user who is using a Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen4i laptop that is connected using a USB-C cable to a Lenovo docking station which is connected using a DisplayPort cable to a Dell U4919DW monitor. The laptop will sometimes not display anything on the monitor when it "wakes up" when the user comes back after about a 15+ minute break. We would have to either replug the monitor's power cable, replug the video cable, or open the laptop and log into Windows and sometimes that would resolve the issue for the moment.

We have tried disabling sleep mode on the laptop within Windows settings and disabling the sleep mode on the monitor itself but the issue still occurs. We have also tried using a USB-C cable instead of a DisplayPort cable but that did not resolve the issue. We ran Windows updates but there are no available updates.

I called Dell tech support about the issue but the tech rep stated that since the Dell monitor is connected to two Lenovo products, they are unable to provide tech support. I am hoping anyone here knows what could resolve the issue.

Can you remove the Docking Station from the troubleshooting and test the U4919DW directly to the Laptop?

It has been working well since we plugged the USB-C cable directly from the monitor into the laptop. Must be some sort of issue with the Lenovo docking station and the monitor.

Yes, we can try this. The next time the user reports this issue, I can try plugging the monitor directly into the laptop instead. I will report back.

Thanks for the update. You should start a thread on the Lenovo Forum. Explain the issue and all hardware to see if other Lenovo docking station users have some insight.
