U4919DW, not working with 2m USB Type-C cable

Hi,

We have a Dell U4919DW that came with a 1m USB Type-C cable. With the 1m cable it's working fine, it keeps the laptop charged and passes through video like it should. We couldn't find a 2m cable from Dell. I researched it and determined that to support video and power over 2 meters we needed an active TB3 cable. We got a StarTech cable part # TBLT3MM2MA if you look it up on Amazon. 6ft, 40Gbps, 100W power rating. It should be able to handle the 65W output from the monitor fine and support the video. When we connect this cable, we get nothing. I find it unlikely but possible that we have a bad cable, wanted to know if anyone else has a 2m cable attached to this monitor or one of the similar USB-C hub monitors working? Is there something else I missed in the specs needed to support power and video?

Thanks!

Just an FYI.

The U4919DW was only validated by Dell with the 1m/3.2ft USB Type-C to C cable. We cannot support the usage of longer 3rd party cables with this monitor =
MRTCD USB Type-C to C, Gen2, DP-Alt, 1m/3.2ft

Correct. Dell does not provide a 2m USB Type-C to C cable. The longest Dell USB Type-C to C cable for some of the other USB Type-C monitors was only 1.8m.

Hi, an update on this issue. I talked to Startech support and they had me try this cable and it works =

$30.99 2m/6.5ft USB Type-C to C cable (5Gbps/USB 3.1-3.2 Gen 1 Type-C/100W 5A Power Delivery charging/DP Alt Mode)

Thanks to all who assisted. Hope this is helpful.

Hi Chris,

Thanks, that's great info I did not find. A 1.8m cable would be sufficient, any chance you have a Dell part number?

Thanks!

Several below, but none of them were tested on the U4919DW.

Thank you. It appears the StarTech cable I linked to above does not actually support DisplayPort over thunderbolt 3. I do get the monitor's USB ports and network cable passed through as well as charging, but no video. I will see if I can find a DP cable. USB-C can be pretty frustrating for a 'standard'. It's a standard form factor, with many, many different types of cables.
