U4919DW, Surface Pro 4, only 1920x1080?

Question

Hi,

I have purchased a monitor U4919DW recently and I have a Surface Pro 4. When I connect the U4919DW to the Surface Pro 4, the maximum resolution that I can choose is 1920x1080? I was wondering if the Surface Pro 4 supports higher resolution? Is there any setting that I missed?

@Farzadb Assuming you're not running through a docking station, which would have been very smart to mention if you were, then your only way to run an external display from a Surface Pro 4 is from the Mini-DisplayPort output. But if you're using a Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter/cable, then the Surface Pro 4 may be limited to 1080p when using "Dual Mode DisplayPort", aka DP++, which allows a DisplayPort output to fall back to native HDMI/DVI signaling. The fix would be to rely on native DisplayPort by using a Mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, which should allow the full 5120x1440 resolution because the Surface Pro 4 uses Core 6th Gen CPUs, and I was able to run 3840x2160, which is slightly MORE total resolution than 5120x1440, from a laptop with an older Core 4th Gen CPUs and older Intel HD 4600 built-in GPU.

But as @DELL-Chris M mentioned above, when asking for technical assistance like this, it helps to provide technical detail, such as the models of the equipment involved AND how everything is connected.

I am using dock station for Surface and Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. connected with one HDMI cable to monitor.

@Farzadb It would REALLY help if you could be more specific in your posts. If you want help on this forum, or really ANY forum, you need to provide useful information so that the people who are willing to help have something to work with. You just said you have a docking station, but didn't identify which dock you have. Microsoft has made multiple Surface docking stations, and there are of course third party options as well, so just saying you're using a "docking station" isn't enough information.

And then you said you're using a Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, but it's not clear if you're plugging that into the dock, or if you're testing it directly connected to the Surface, or if you've tried both.

But I already explained why a Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter/cable could be an issue. And depending on the dock you're using, that could be causing a limitation as well. But as I also explained, if you got an actual Mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable or adapter, you would probably be able to use the display at its full 5120x1440 resolution. Whether you could do that through your DOCK will depend on the dock you have, but you should at least be able to do it by plugging that Mini-DP to DP cable/adapter directly into the MiniDP output on the Surface.
