UltraSharp 2408WFP rev A01 is here, or so I think

Ok i'm not 100% sure its rev A01 coz I couldn't see any indication of revision number in the back (and trust me I work in IT) and I looked.

But, on the main sheet with the basic instructions it says P/N: ***** rev A01. In the back it does say June 08 too.

I ordered it on June 11th 2 weeks ago when it was at 499$ (200$ off for Dell people choice deals) and I just got it today June 26th. More people should be getting it as that deal was very popular, so we'll see for sure

So far, I hooked it up to my desktop at 1900 x 1200 via DVI w/o any problems.

I'll go try out my 360 via VGA now.

@popelife

some people stated that the text shadows disappear when you enable Clear Text option thats present in Windows.

Depending on the particular font, Cleartype (and the Cleartype tuner) can make some fonts look marginally better, but others look much worse. It's the same if you disable Cleartype or if you use standard font smoothing in Windows. Popelife's right, it's very subtle, but it's a constant feeling that my eyes aren't focusing properly.

I really like this monitor, especially for this price. The other issues that people have mentioned, are really non-issues for me as well. I feel like I've got the colors well under control. There is a slightly brighter part in the lower left screen, but I really have to look hard to notice it. However, I'm going to have to return it or exchange it for another if Dell can't resolve the sharpness issue.

Quite honestly if Dell could send me a 2407 to replace my 2408, I'd be happy.

I suspect all it does is help disguise the problem. Trying to sharpen an already optimally sharp edge causes ringing. Soften the edge and the ringing is less apparent. But the proper solution is not to sharpen it.
It's a crazy situation, there was no need to reinvent the wheel with this monitor. After all these years, you'd think monitor manufacturers would know how to make a monitor. I guess someone thought they were being clever by adding a "sharpening" function. More features = better? Not necessarily.
A bit like the people that think hi-fi amplifiers are better if they have bass and treble controls.

Haven't tried any HD movies yet, but photos look quite good.  It took me a while to get the colors calibrated to my liking, but the calibrated settings at monitortest.blogspot.com worked pretty well.   I'm not a photo/video editing professional, so take my input with a grain of salt.  As long as the colors look natural, and not washed out, I'm happy.

I have considered,

1.Dell 2408WFP

2.Samsung 245T

3.BenQ FP241W

4.LG L246WP

but here in India only the Dell 2408WFP is available (shipped from Malaysia). Its primarily for watching movies.

How about the BenQ? What is it, the FP241 or something (I can't remember all these model numbers).

Only a tiny bit more expensive here in the UK.

After extensively playing on the monitor for the whole past weekend some of my perceptions have changed.

There is indeed a noticeable input lag. I've noticed it at several occasions when watching teammates play they would sometimes shoot someone before the cross on the person even appeared on my screen.

However, as this article suggests, http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/display/lcd-parameters_7.html#sect0, you do get used to input lag. You adapt to it.

Still, if you're really hardcore about gaming, maybe this is not the best choice after all..(at least until new firmware)

As for the slow mouse issue, the article does suggest that since the resolution is higher you've got more distance to cover with your mouse giving you the impression of moving slower.

"So, when you change your monitor with one that has a significantly different resolution or size of the screen, just open the mouse settings panel and experiment a little with its sensitivity. If you’ve got an old mouse with a low optical resolution, you may want to purchase a newer and more sensitive one. It is going to move smoothly even if you select a high speed in its settings. An extra $20 for a good mouse is a tiny sum in comparison with the price of a new monitor."
