Hi - I have now received the miniDP to DP cable, and just to confirm the it solved the problem. I just plugged it, selected the DP input in the screen, and the screen works at 2560x1440 automatically.
Thank you Iruiz. I did some additional finding.. you would need a display port to dual link DVI cable to get access to the maximum resolution. This is a DVI cable with an attached USB port http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-adapter?fnode=53&fs=m.productKind%3Dcables. At the moment I using a standard DVI cable connected to my mini's display port.. hence get a maximum of 1080p. Will go and buy the dual link DVI cable later this week.
Do not know what could be wrong... i appears that adaptor is not working well? or the cable is faulty?... all I can say is that a miniDP to DP cable worked perfectly for me.

Hi Marion64 - look, I just found this blog: forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php
It says that we need a miniDP to DP cable to get the 2560x1440 resolution. I am buying that cable now.
Best,
I.

Hi!! Exactly the same problem here.
I just bought a new mac-min with this Dell U2713HM, but I do not know how to set it up.
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot,
I.

Hi again marion64 - thanks a lot for that :)
I do not think we need to spend all that money. Instead of your $99 solution, I think I have found a £5~$8 solution. Look:
1 - The thurderbolt connection in our mac-mini is backward compatible with mini-DisplayPort
reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20043524-263.html
2 - Our Dell U2713HM has a DisplayPort
3 - This cable miniDisplayPort to DisplayPort should do the job:
www.amazon.co.uk/.../ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
I have just bought that cable, should get it tomorrow, I will let you know if it does the job.
BTW, interesting how we both have bought exactly the same system at the same time: mac-min i7 + dell U2713HM.
Best,
I.
