UP2414Q keeps going into half screen at random intervals.

Display: UP2414Q

Display Rev: A00

Display ISP UART: R-1122R, L-1122L, FE-1122F, VEGA-T06

Display HDMI connection: Plugged in with HDMI cable, physically disconnected from any system.

Display mDP connection: Plugged in with Dell's included mDP<-->DP cable.  Plugged into Dell Precision M4700's DP (nVidia K1000M)

Display DP connection: Not plugged into anything.

Display DP mode: 1.2

System: Dell Precision M4700, with nVidia K1000M

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit

nVidia driver: 344.75 (as that's the only one shown as tested with UP2414Q, as specified in Dell's Knowledge Base.

Resolution: Mosaic, 2 x [1920x2160], 60Hz over DP 1.2 MST

Problem: UP2414Q keeps going into half screen at random intervals.  Only the right half (system tray side) is displayed at the centre of the UP2414Q.  The left half (start menu side) is lost.

Workaround found: Execute "devcon restart =display *VEN_10DE*", without quotes.

Workaround details: This restarts the display driver / device.

Ask: Permanent solution required.

Purchase Date: 6th September 2015

Purchased From: Retailer - Canada Computers

Sale details: Final sale.  (No exchange, no refund)

p.s.  The workaround is not permanent.  The UP2414Q would go into half screen again, at random intervals.

Is there a solution other than an exchange?  Has this issue been internally documented as a fixed issue in newer revision?  Exchanging the item is kind of a last resort.

They actually have a 14 day Refund and Exchange policy. If inside that 14 days, return it and buy new directly from Dell Canada. This way you will get the latest revision. If outside the 14 day period, get it exchanged by us.

Yes, they have that policy, but that policy doesn't apply to clearance item.  Hence as stated: Final sale.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

So, as stated, it's a clearance item (therefore final sale).  Also, note my purchase date, it's more than two weeks anyway.

I see. A clearance item. An exchange is the only way to get the newer revision. Your situation is an example for why I wrote this in my FAQ Monitor, "Why you should buy a monitor directly from Dell".

Yeah, clearance.  And even at that price, I don't see this model is flying off the shelf.  Maybe it's a bad model to go with from the get go.  Makes one wonder the level of production development QC (more specifically, the lack of).

Noted.  Maybe Dell can limit their sales channels then.

Question: "Has this issue been internally documented as a fixed issue in newer revision?"  (i.e. Reason to exchange is, of course, to get this issue addressed.)

This basically comes down to the lack of post-sales information bridge between Dell and the resellers, in combination with the post-sales support process (hurdles) that Dell has decided to put into place.  It's a process issue.  A lack of post-sales continuity.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

==================================

"We cannot guarantee that the reseller is shipping you a monitor that has not already been returned to them multiple times. Nor will they tell that they had done this.

The monitor sits in their warehouse getting old. Before too long, they could have older revisions.

None of these resellers can provide a Dell Order number that states when they purchased the monitor from Dell. Without a Dell Order number, you cannot get through our web forms. This leads to all kinds of stress on you, the buyer.

If you want a Dell warranty, Dell order number, Dell customer number, and Dell service tag number all tied to your name, buy the monitor directly from Dell."
