UP2516D and HDMI issue

OK, I am baffled.

I have a Lenovo P51S Laptop, Ultradock 3 90W and a Dell UP2516D monitor. I have the monitor connected via mDP to the dock and it works as expected EXCEPT for a known issue with no solution where the monitor will blank and then lose signal when using the DEVELOP module in Lighroom. I doubt you can fix that, so I attempted to as it seems it only happens with a DP connection.

I bought a 4K HDMI cable. Connected to dock and monitor. Selected HDMI on monitor and no signal detected. The tried another known working HDMI cable and no signal detected. Tried both ports on the monitor. Then tried direct from the laptop and same. I did not open the laptop lid as I wanted the monitor resolution, but could try that if need be.

It "feels" like a Lenovo issue but do not know. No setting I can find that would contribute to this.

Ideas please?

Thanks.

Do #3 here. Then retest.

1st test =
* Disconnect the HDMI to HDMI cable from the Lenovo P51S Laptop
* Connect the Lenovo AC power adapter to the Lenovo P51S Laptop
* Open the lid
* Make sure the Windows desktop is showing
* The UP2516D is on, the HDMI to HDMI cable is connected to HDMI 1 in port
* Connect the other end of the HDMI to HDMI cable to the Lenovo P51S Laptop HDMI out port
* Look on the Lenovo P51S Laptop for a Fn button to enable external monitor

2nd test =
From a desktop PC with HDMI out port, test =
HDMI out port --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> UP2516D HDMI 1 in port

Thanks Chris.

Since posting I tried another HDMI cable, no change. Known working HDMI cable to both Dell monitor ports from the laptop directly. No change. And do realize this works as expected using mDP, yes? So it is not telling the computer to project to both as it does!

I am thinking there is no HDMI output from the laptop. Nothing else to test that with. Nor any desktop to try with the monitor. And no setting I can find to enable video on th eHDMI laptop ports.

Northing under warranty. I had been happy using mDP since new so no need to try HDMI until the losing sync in Lightroom issue popped up.

OK, took the laptop to a neighbor and plugged in via HDMI. Opened the lid and immediately worked. So has to be my monitor. Do let me know if any ideas. No idea why this monitor does not recognize the HDMI signal.

Thanks

Worked like a charm, Chris. Thanks!

I'm not going to press my luck, but it "appears" that HDMI does not work if an mDP cable is also plugged in even if the HDMI 1 port is selected. But I am good to go now.
