UP2516D MST using DisplayPort (not mDP)
I have a Dell Latitude 7420 and would like to use MST through a UP2516D monitor. Since the 7420 does not have a DP port, I will use a USB-C to either DisplayPort OR mDP cable going into the UP2516D; then using the UP2516.DP-out to the second monitor. (note: I understand the Latitude 7420 has a separate HDMI port; already using this for a dual monitor setup, but now exploring a possible 3-monitor setup)
On the UP2516D user manual page 28, the diagram only shows (PC)DP --> (UP2516D)mDP.
My questions:
1.Will MST only work going into the mDP of the UP2516D? Or will it also work using the DP in?
2. Will MST work if the second monitor is NOT a Dell monitor?
3. Opinions on whether Latitude 7420 can do the 3 monitors (i.e. 1 via HDMI; 2 via DP/mDP MST)
Thanks!

The only reason that the UP2516D User's Guide shows DP MST daisy chain using mDP was because we "only" provided the DP to mDP cable with the UP2516D.
The first monitor in the DP MST daisy chain can use either mDP in port or DP in port.
The second monitor in the DP MST daisy chain can also use either mDP in port or DP in port.
2. Will MST work if the second monitor is NOT a Dell monitor?
In theory, yes.
3. Opinions on whether Latitude 7420 can do the 3 monitors (i.e. 1 via HDMI; 2 via DP/mDP MST)
Using the Latitude 7420 on battery only, doubtful. With lid closed and AC adapter plugged in, maybe. You should post that question on the Latitude board to get their opinions.

Unknown. Dell does not support/test the usage of HDMI/DVI/VGA in any part of the DP MST daisy chain. You would have to test this.
