Any usage of HDMI, DVI, or VGA breaks the DP MST daisy chain. The second monitor in the DP MST daisy chain must have DP in or mDP in. You cannot daisy chain from the UP3017 to the 2407WFP.

Optiplex 5060 #1 DP out port --> DP to mDP cable --> First UP3017 mDP in port (MST On)

First UP3017 DP out port --> DP to mDP cable --> Second UP3017 mDP in port (MST Off)

Optiplex 5060 #2 DP out port --> DP to DVI cable --> 2407WFP DVI in port

Optiplex 5060 DP out port --> DP to DP cable --> First UP3017 #4 DP in port (Menu- Display- MST On)

First UP3017 #6 DP out port --> DP to DP cable --> Second UP3017 #4 DP in port (Menu- Display- MST Off)

Optiplex 5060 USB-A port --> USB-A to USB-B upstream cable --> First UP3017 #8 USB-B upstream port (This enables the four USB-A downstream ports on the first UP3017)

So, per the instructions forwarded, I have done the following:

  • First UP3017 is connected to Optiplex 5060 via the mDP monitor port into (1) of (2) DP ports on the back of the PC; MST is turned OFF and this first monitor is running at 2500x1600
  • Second UP3017 is connected to Optiplex 5060 via the HDMI monitor port into second DP port on back of PC; MST is turned ON and second monitor is running at 2500x1600
  • Second U3017 is “daisy-chained” using the DP port #4 (out), identified in image forwarded, to a third monitor, a Dell 2407WFP, using a DP-->DVI converter dongle and I cannot get the third monitor to see a signal.

I have confirmed that the third monitor is set to DVI-D input but other than that, not sure what else to try. Perhaps the DP-->DVI dongle is causing an issue? Maybe a resolution thing with the third monitor as it is much older and of lower resolution than the UP3017s? Again, any additional help appreciated.

Further research leads me to believe that the monitor I am daisy-chaining to, needs to have a DP port in but am uncertain if this terminating DP port needs to be MST enabled. Am I figuring this out or am I just getting more confused?

I appreciate your patience. I am not an unintelligent person but this is not something I deal with on a daily basis and getting I.T. to address minor issues like this just doesn't happen. I will need to track down a compliant monitor as most of the ones laying around are older DVI and VGA units. I believe I understand the basics on MST now, thanks for taking the time to respond both times!

Got it sorted. I find it odd that this functionality is available yet so few know about it, even I.T. here where I work. Life saver for those of us who work in environments in which we have little say on the output options on our work machines but most every Win machine running UHD630 graphics shoud have at least 2 display ports I think (maybe)? DP always confused me as I didn't understand why there was a distinction between HDMI and DP. Now I well and truly know. All sorted with (2) UP3017s chained together using MST and a third random 27" DVI monitor as my email screen. Everything has worked out so well, thanks for the help.
