videocard requirment for 2407FPW

im looking to get a 2407FPW, (hopefully a03) and currently i have a kinda old PCI videocard. I dont have a AGP slot, so i cant upgrade now. in the future i will be upgrading my entire PC, but for now, i was wondering, if my graphics card is sufficient enough to run the 2407FPW in 1920x1200 (or native)

Name: VisionTek Xtasy 9200SE, there are some specs here:

http://shopping.yahoo.com/p:VisionTek%20Xtasy%209200%20SE%20Video%20Card:1993554910:page=details;_ylt=AgaxcqAii7Bn8klj.B01MyCsmbsF;_ylu=X3oDMTBiZ2o2Y3ZwBHNlYwNzaWJzcGVj

or here, cause the above is has conflict with forums emotions:

thanks in advance.

oh, also, if im playing videos games or DVDs that have a 16:9 output, will i see thin black bars, or stretching? what about at a 4:3 ratio?

Someone else may answer you properly but I tried to find a review on your card but only really got the info. that it was made in 2004.
Usually a card with 'se' in its name indicates a 'cut down' version of a full card. It does specify that it would handle the resolution but I would be very dubious as to how well it could run vidio, apps., & games at this resolution imo.
16:9 would have very small black bars at the top of the screen as this monitor is 16:10. Try here for more details on wide screen use - http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/
Really these monitors 24" & up are for higher end users - especially games & apps. such as photoshop. If you could put up with how your system would run it until a really decent upgrade which atm needs 1-2 gigs ram ddr2, a very good 450w psu & upwards, a decent AM2 or Intel motherboard, a decent cpu AMD or INTEL, a good case that is roomy & is designed well for cooling, & a pci-e vidio card ie. 7600gs upwards.
My opinion,
cheers

the reason i want this monitor is becasue, i work with a lot of video and audio editing, i need lots of space on my main monitor, (secondary is fine as i usually just run mixer windows, and smaller less critical tools)

i seen that this monitor was the way to go, becasue of its value.

also, its nice that it offers component cables, as i would like to use it to watch HDTV here and there. and seeing as i dont have a HDTV at all right now, it seems that much more lustful

we'll i'll do some research and maybe put 500 or so under the hood in upgrades first. then again, it looks like it will take dell 3 weeks minimum to deliver, and even then it'll probly be refurbished or a02

thanks for the reply,

yeah i forgot to mention, im getting a new motherboard and graphics card, so that part of the equation is figured out.

basically i'll have:

-a intel duo e6600
-asus motherboard (forget the specs, but has PCI expressx16, 2x4, and 3 regulat PCI slots)
-ati x850xt pci express graphics card
-2GBDDR2, 733mhz

You did not list your system, but you did say you only have a PCI slot and no AGP, which means you cannot get a pci-express card either.  Why don't you list your model number to your system, so someone can assist further.

Dell recommends 6000 series or 6800GT or better, good results here with 7900GS, nVidia cards.
ATI may have issues as you probably read here.

I have an ATI X800XT PCI Express (256 MB) and it runs fine with the 2407.

You listened to me - great...
I would prefer a 7600gt nvidia or better or you could get what I am going to get very soon - X1950XTX 512mb. ram - but this is a very high end card & you may not need this grunt.
I assume you also have a decent case with good cooling & very important now, a good brand name 450w PSU. Mine is a thermaltake 750w but this would be an overkill for you. Good cooling, no clutter, good clean power = no real problems most of the time:smileywink:
cheers
btw. That 850 you mentioned would be ok.
EDIT: (the last time I hope) Someone will surely mention that component on the 2407 is very iffy.

Thanks for the reply. I answered again btw.
Your type of work would require some big hard drives as well fyi the 320 gigs are the best price per gig atm.

How good is ATI about driver support now, haven't purchased ATI since AIW 7500, 1 & 1/2 years to get a good set of drivers MMC and all. Guess they are better now, Huh.
Wasn't that pink shimmery stuff realated to ATI, or not or only some ATI cards, or not?

And from that list forwarded to BenQ from ChrisM:

(1) The 1600x1200 fixed aspect (1:1) has NOT been fixed. The 1:1 option is still grayed out at 1600x1200. This is not good when you have an ATI graphic card.

No problems now or..?

all the facts
From what others are saying about ATI in other forums is that atm they are better & cheaper then nvidia + a better picture on screen. The new 1950 xtx beats or is not far behind the sli 7950gtx of nvidia with better quality output + did I say cheaper?
I don't know about fixing the 1600x1200 on the dells though.
cheers

That's good to know.

That 7500 was 4 years ago, it just really put me off from ever lookin at ATI's again. But on your word I'll give'em a second look.:) Building in next six months or so.

There was an issue about nNvidia, something about you can't run SLI in dual monitors so you have to disable SLI in a 7950g2 and that's just one card running not both GPU's if you know what I mean.

7950gtx last I looked was about $400.00 U.S. how much are those ATI's.
