Warranty on 2001fp?

What's the warranty period on the 2001fp monitor?
Does the warranty period differ depending on where I buy the monitor from? (dell vs ebay)
What's the dead pixel policy for Dell?
If I decide to RMA the monitor, do I have to pay shipping?

Thanks.

All Dell branded monitors either have a standard 3 year warranty or will follow the warranty of the system it shipped with whichever is longer. Im not really sure about the policy if part was purchased from ebay.

Dell rep you spoke to, obviously, doesnt know Dell's policy. From what I know and what was told to me by a Dell rep I spoke to before, all Dell-branded monitors would have a standard 3 year warranty or will follow the warranty of the system it came with, whichever is greater. The only exceptions to the rule are monitors purchased from an auction (ebay) or from an individual.

hmm. I asked a dell rep before, and she informs me that it is 1 year..

but a 1 year warranty on a $1000 monitor is a bit short no? Especially since it's a LCD, which is more prone to defects.

I believe so. Do you have an order # for that monitor?

oooh.. I get it, so if I purchase from dell directly, it's 3 years

but if I buy it from ebay, it will be 1 year?.

I was told by tech support that my 1703FP had a one year warranty, than Samantha on the web site said it was for one year also, than she corrected herself later by stating that  the warranty for the monitor was for three (3) years, if its a dell monitor, which it was.  It is sad when the Dell web site does not explain the warranty period except saying that in general, it can be from  one to three years.  Even the packing slip did not state the length on the warranty...Dell has got to get its act together...

I think not all Dell techs know of this policy. I spoke to someone from India and Panama and they all told me that my monitor only had a 1 year warranty. When I called back again, I was fortunate enough to get a tech from Manila and the tech told me that my monitor had a 3 year warranty and that the previous techs I talked with are all mistaken. She said that it was a common mistake with some techs.

Can a dell rep get on this thread and straighten this out please?

Thanks.

because I'm about to purchase the 2001fp from ebay, but I want to make sure I understand the warranty process - considering the fact that so many people seem to be getting defective monitors.. =(

enyceexdanny,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

If the monitor is bought new without a system there is a 3 yr warranty. If the monitor is refurbished then there is a 90 day warranty. If you bought the monitor with a computer system the warranty is good until the warranty expires on the system.

enyceexdanny,

It is very doubtful that the monitor has a warranty. If you do not have it in your name or a Dell order number then, it cannot be verified.

encyceexdanny,

The warranty may be from the people who are selling this monitor. Dell does not sale any products through ebay. The information that I provided is accurate. I asked the people who send parts out who know Dell warranties pretty well.

but when you check all the ebay auctions, it clearly states that there's a 1 year warranty on it.

Plus I talked to a couple of reps, and they told me that it is indeed 1 year.

It seems that every dell rep I speak to gives me different answers.

Can you please give me some accurate information?

Thanks.

one more question... =)

So if i buy the 2001fp from dell directly :

[1] Warranty is 3 years
[2] 30 days to get it replaced with a brand new one if the current one is defective
[3] after 30 days, you replace it with a refurb.
[4] Can you please elaborate refurb? Used? Repaired? etc?
[5] Dell provides shipping to me and vice versa , correct?

It's just that I see that there are alot of defective 2001fp's floating around, so I'm pretty nervous about getting one.

Thanks.
