What screen resolution is best?

When I got my computer (a month ago) there was a peice of plastic on the screen that said that the screen(19 inch) resolution was 1280x1024 so when I turned on the computer I thought thats what the resolution was set to. Well the other day I happened upon the resolution settings menu and found out that the resolution was set to 1024x768 so I set it to 1280x1024 and everything seemed small so I switched it back to 1024x768. I like 1024x768 but should it be 1280x1024?

LCD's have a native or optimal resolutions as oppose to CRT monitors to work at there best.   And the LCD you have is 1280x1024.  My 24 incher is 1920x1200 so the higher you go the smaller the fonts are.

What do you mean by "Native" resolution?

Native setting is 1280x1024 for that LCD monitor. Some, like yourself cannot handle that resolutions, but you can change it if you wish, but for many that will not give you the optimal viewing experience.   Up to you.  But having it set to a lower resolutions, you are throwing away some screen real estate that you paid for.

If you are having eye problems seeing the smaller fonts, than you can increase the font size.

One way

... Right click the desktop with your mouse > click on Properties > click on Appearance > than in the lower left side you can change the font size.

Two

. You can lower the screens resolution downward a notch to see if the lower resolutions helps you.  Which you have done already

Third

. Turn the DPI in Display properties to 120 instead of 96 dpi to see if you like this. Right click desktop again > click on Properties again > click on Settings > Advanced, and make the changers there

Fourth

. In Internet Explorer, you can click on > View > click on Text Size > change size from there for insternet explorer only

Well I'm starting to be convinced to turn my screen to 1280x1024 and keep it that way, I just turned the resolution back to 1280x1024 and for the first time since the resolution was 1280x1024 I opened IE 7 and saw all my buttons on my Yahoo! toolbar. So I guess your right about that "real estate" thing, you sure can see alot more. But why do the letters(fonts) seem so pixeled?

I too just got my new Dell 9200. I have a E228WFT (22" wide screen), the clear sheet that was on my monitor says 1680 x 1050.  But is says (Optimal) and then it says instrucitons and drivers are on the CD. Should I use the CD or did they install this at the factory?

Go into Display Properties > Right click on the desktop >  Properties > Settings > Advanced >  Monitor >  Than check to see if the actual monitor is listed.  If not, than install the driver if you wish which will list the correct monitor you have.

Yes it says the monitor is installed.
I have my monitor now set for 1680x1050  Makes somethings small but not others.  I want to get the best out of this expensive equipment.
Thanks
