Which color calibration software for Dell LCD's?

Hello,
I just ordered a Dell 2007FPW to hook up to my Inspiron 9300 for doing my image editing. I was wondering if someone could give me their experiences and opionions as to which color calibration software seems to work best of this monitor. I was planning on going with the Spyder2Pro bundle but have read some reviews where it didn't perform as well as others on some LCD monitors and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it on this monitor. I am also considering the ColorEyes Display because I read where it seems to perform good on all monitors and also considering the MonacoOptix XR Pro package. If anyone has any experience with these or others and can make a recommendation please let me know. Also, does this monitor come with any color calibration software already installed and does it have a pivot software already installed where I can rotate it to portrait position when needed or am I going to have to add this seperately? Also, if anyone is already using this monitor for image editing I would really appreciate any feedback as to how well you like or dislike it for this function. It was actually not my first choice for image editing but when they dropped the price down to $367USD I just could not resist trying it. I just hope I made a wise choice.

hi mudhawg,
I don't have experience with calibration software, but can answer a couple of your questions. The 2007WFP does not come with calibration or pivot software - your graphics card driver should be able to do the pivot. I suppose you are aware of the gradient banding issue.

Thanks for your reply. Actually, I was not aware of the banding problem until after I ordered the monitor and now I am quite worried. I also asked the question about that on the forum earlier to see if the problem is fixed or if by ordering today if mine will be the new revision. I am really hoping I will get the new revision because the banding problem will pretty much eliminate me from using the monitor for image editing if I get an old revision. Hopefully I will get good news for my other post where I asked this question.

The banding is only a problem if you're working with very fine gradients. If you do get an old revision you could try and get around it by using VGA connection for the time being until the replacement arrives.   Unless you look at a solid test gradient it's not too bad.   Also with the color calibration, not sure if you've found any or how it works on the 2007WFP but I noticed one time while running an ATI Ruby demo, you can enter a little calibration screen where it shows the three RGB color blocks and says to adjust each color setting until the colors blend or some visual thing like that.

I use the Colorvision Spyder2 Pro, with Optical 3.7 software. I've been using the Colorvision stuff for several years now and it works fine with pretty much any monitor or LCD.

It took about 15 minutes to calibrate the 2407WFP, after about three trys at understanding Dell's dumbed-down menus. It would be nicer if Dell would indicate the color temperatures on the menus rather than making the user jump through hoops and guess at what the presets mean... out of the box, this monitor needed turning the brightness down a bit and then it was very close to 6500K 2.2gamma.
