Which to buy - 2005FPW flat panel or 2001FP flat panel

Looking to buy a good sized flat panel for less than $1200.

Regarding Dell's two 20 inch monitors, I can't tell whether the widescreen (2005fpw) has a shorter viewing size than the other one.  Do the widescreen and the other one have the same number of square inches, or does the widescreen have more square inches because they simply made the other one wider?

Dell's website says the 2001 is 20.0 high and 20.16 wide, while the 2005 is 15.3 up to 22.4 high and 18.6 wide.  Why would the 2001 be wider than the wide-screen 2005?  What is adjustable height on the widescreen?

Two frustrating calls to Dell (sales and tech support) got me no information.  Both people seemed not to understand what I was talking about, and couldn't provide any info beyond what's on Dell's website.  The sales rep said the 2005 was a better version of the 2001 and that Dell is phasing out the 2001, when Dell has said elsewhere that isn't true.  The tech rep didn't seem to have any idea, almost like she's not even seen or used these monitors.

Anyway, any help distinguishing the two would be great, because I can't figure out which to buy.

Neither - Let Dell resolve it's issues with DHL delivery and their failure to ship and or to lose merchandise. As a trial run, pretend you have a problem and try to contact Dell. I would have to say save your money for now. Google "Dell Complaints" and you'll see what I wished I would have known.

I got my 2005FPW monitor today.  I am coming from a Dell 2001FP so I need to get use to the wide screen.

What I like:

Build and Picture Quality

USB Ports - 4 of them

No extra power adapter - power cord plugs directly into the monitor

What I Dislike:

Adjustable height - you cannot adjust the height as high as the 2001FP.

PDSchweitzer,

does the 2005FPW have the screen door effect like the 2001FP?   is the ghosting the same?

I never noticed a screendoor or ghosting on my 2001FP so I can say it does or does not.  I use a DVI connection (VGA connection is not so great) so the picture quality is excellent.

I want to use the flat panel for word processing and also for games like eq2 (ok, i'm a nerd).  anybody used the 2005fpw for games?  how does it compare to the 2001fp, or to a crt?

I own the 2001FP .. and I play lot's of games on it, and it is awesome. The performance is great! and seeing as the 2005fpw has similiar performance stats i would expect that it would perform similiarly..

HOWVER i would look into the games that you play, and see how they work at the odd (widescreen) aspect ration of the 2005fpw... You'll ideally want to drive the monitor at it's native resolution.. but if the games that you play won't/don't run at that resolution, then the 2001fp may be the better choice (with it's more convention resolution)
