XPS 8900, U2414H, DP cable not recognised
Just inboxed and set up my new 8900 xps desktop and u2414h screen. Cable supplied is a dp cable and the only way it will connect is the mini connector under the screen and the larger connector in the only dp slot on the back of the tower. All I get on the screen is no DisplayPort cable! Looked on the forum and posts imply the dp cable doesn't work and that an hdmi cable is needed. rang support and told them this, they put me through to customer service who assured me I had the correct cable and told me to call support! Does anyone else have this issue? You'd think the correct cable would be supplied.

The system and monitor come from different areas and are not tied together at the purchase point. The sales site does not compare the monitor ports and specifications to the computer ports and capabilities. The sales site simply ships what you choose. The cables that ship with a monitor do not have anything to do with with what video card you may have purchased in the XPS 8900. The cables provided are at the monitor manufacturer directions. The bottom video card is where the monitor should plug into. That is if you bought one? The Dell monitor should be connected to the bottom video card (10/11/12), not the middle ports (6/7). So what specific video card is installed?
The U2414H has the following in ports = Mini DisplayPort, DisplayPort, HDMI, HDMI
Looking at the bottom of your XPS 8900, what ports do you see? Or, what is the service tag number and I can tell you what video card you purchased.
