Access is denied error from VADP backups

Hi All,

I'm a little confused and need some clarification.  I just started testing VADP backups and when the job completed I got several of these messages:

     * :  File C:\Documents and Settings\ could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied.

)

     * :  File C:\ProgramData\Application Data\ could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied.

)

     * :  File C:\ProgramData\Desktop\ could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied.

)

     * :  File C:\ProgramData\Documents\ could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied.

)

     * :  File C:\ProgramData\Favorites\ could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied.

)

     * :  File C:\ProgramData\Start Menu\ could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied.

)

     * :  File C:\ProgramData\Templates\ could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied.

The messages continue but only focus on folders inside the C:\Users directories.  What gives?  Anyone else seen something similar?

Hi imasock,

Is it Windows 2003 or Windows 2008 ? What is the NetWorker version you are using ?

Make sure that all the VSS writers are in stable state wit no errors , check the output of vssadmin list writers on the client.

If a Server 2003 client repeatadly comes with these errors, make sure you have applied the VSS update rollup package:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349

Otherwise try to reboot for that VM and re-run the backup again.

Waiting your updates.

Thanks,

Ahmed Bahaa

Hi Ahmed,

The client is Windows 2008 R2, and NetWorker is verion 7.6.3.  I ran the vssadmin command above but everything came back as stable with no errors.

I do see this error on the client Application log (VSS error):

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error DeviceIoControl(\\?\fdc#generic_floppy_drive#6&3b4c39bd&0&0#{53f5630d-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b} - 0000000000000480,0x00560000,0000000000000000,0,0000000000148890,4096,[0]).  hr = 0x80070001, Incorrect function.

.

   Examining Detected Volume: Existing - \\?\fdc#generic_floppy_drive#6&3b4c39bd&0&0#{53f5630d-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}

   Provider Name: VMware Snapshot Provider

   Provider Version: 1.0.0

   Provider ID: {564d7761-7265-2056-5353-2050726f7669}

   Current State: DoSnapshotSet

Not entirely sure how to interpret this, but it looks like it's not taking a clean snapshot, is that right?

Thanks,

Jon

Hello,

We have almost the same error.

The client is Windows 2008 R2, Backupserver and proxy server have NetWorker is version 7.6.3.4

We use hotadd

On powerlink is no information about this error.

savegrp: suppressed 1010 lines of verbose output

:  cannot opendir "." (\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy352\..\..\..\..\\): No such file or directory

VSS writers are stable. and no snapshot errors.

Anyone else with the same problem..???

We've also got the same problem with Networker 7.6.3 and Windows 2008. Did anyone manage to resolve this?
