Question

Hi,

I am using ADIC i500 we having an issue where tapes are tagged full in minutes utilized at 23 GB and so forth. We have LTO3 library SCSI.

The daemon.raw log files give me this output. Please any one with insight to the issue please assist.

I'm not sure library should be in lcd or memory mapped mode (I have i500 somewhere so I could check tomorrow), but chances are that if you check library log on jukebox panelor via web you will also see errors. At that point, calling library support is recommended.

baaba-TuaIF, The statement of 'lun not ready' gives us a pretty good clue of what is going on.  Although it might seem to be the library right off, there are several other possibilites.  So, I have a couple of questions for you on this that will help us figure out what is going on: How is the library connected to the NetWorker server? I presume it would be SAN, but I would like to make sure If this is a SAN connection, have you verified that the library AND it's drives are visible on the SAN? Can the operating system see the linrary AND it's drives? What is the OS of the Networker server (or storage node accessing the library)? Can you perform task with the library control panel, such as load drive, clean drives, etc.? Did this library work before and now is not? If so, what changes were done in the environment? Once I have this information, I may be able to assist you.  I have seen similar issues before. Thank you! Mark

I am not being fooled by NW - I am also not making the assumtion that it is a problem with the library. The statement the the lun is not ready can be caused by serveral different factors. Regardless of the cause, NetWorker is reporting that has attempted to communicate with the library or drive and it is not getting the response.

In order to resolve the issue, I need the additional information requested. From there I should be able to point the customer in the correct direction.

What happens is that NW will scan ASC/ASCQ code table for code it has and spit out what has found.  lun not ready belongs to SONY, while originalposted has ADIC.  That means that error message that might be appropriate would be library to be offline.  Whatever it is, it affects both drives and library so in case when single HBA is used it could easily be also faulty HBA.   If this is something on library side, checking library logs (web or panel) would be first step.  If those are clean, then issue is either host or connection.  The error logged by syslog suggests parity errors which might indicate issue with link (fc I guess).

I'm just saying that lun not ready is not correct message And I was wrong, that one belogs to OVERLAND and not SONY. What we see from first log is that NW doesn't know type of library, but the code it gets is 0x03 (ASC) 0x8d (ASCQ), or:

syslog contains more detailed data indicating issues in transfer of SCSI commands which may not be isolated to library only of course.

But obviously ball is not in hands (or legs) of customer itself. Few basic checks should isolate this further.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the response, some time last week (wendsday) to be exact i changed a SCSI cable with one of the old SCSI cables we have lying arround and it resolved the issue. I am no longer seeing clone session on "nsrwatch" command even though they have long being completed. And tapes are fully utilize to atleast more than a Tera byte.

And we actualy using a SCSI(Not SAN) we looking to move to fiber connection hopefully will not get this issues.
