BACKUP EMC BACKUP RECOVERY (EBR)

Question

Hello my friends, I'm having doubts about backing up virtual machines using the EBR VIRTUAL APPLIANCE / Networker. One of the prerequisites for using the EBR would be to use the DD for storing backups. However I wonder, why utilizad disk one EBR for example? I could send backup for EBR? Or I can not use it as a storage device? What is the real function of both disk space EBR? TKS..
